The largest gathering of people in the world occurs at the Kumbh Mela which is a spiritual pilgrimage celebrated every three years in one of four sacred cities of India: Allahabad, Ujjain, Nasik and Haridwar.
In Hindu mythology, it is said that a drop of immortal nectar was dropped at each of these locations as Gods and demons fought over the pot or kumbh that held the nectar.
Millions of Hindus travel to the Mela to bathe in the Ganga, believing their sins will be washed away and they will achieve salvation. For other visitors, the festival is a fascinating spectacle of size and eccentricity. This video shows you sights from the most recent Ardh (half) Kumbh Mela in Allahabad city (Uttar Pradesh state) in January 2007. The interviewee is Pooja Pandey, a local girl whose family home becomes a hotel during the Kumbh Mela.

This was very nice. Thought that maybe you could have summed up some of the things she was saying with narraration, but I think this is Current worthy. GL.
-
I was born in New Jersey. For me this is a look into a world that is both fascinating and culturally rich. I liked it, and I think other people will like it too. Thanks for your work, minimal and well photographed. GL!

Very interesting.

great work, very informative. my only suggestion if I had one would be to break up the interview with some very short music and visual breaks - as she speaks very fast it would be nice to get some breathers in there. GL for sure. eleni

This pod was well shot, packed with information, and beauty. Thank you for sharing this with us. I am trying to speak for those who cannot. I would greatly appreciate your input, suggestions, and support for my re-upload of The Voice of the Murmurs. I'm trying to work for these children in Lima, Peru and would be grateful for your insight. Cheers and keep speaking up. Danielmklopp~

Wow, a real eye-opener.

I am completely drawn to the content due to my personal interest in all things Indian. High score for cultural impact, great footage, and interesting perspective/insight through interviewee. It ended a bit abruptly, though.

Distant cultures are certainly intriguing, but I don't understand why this event is significant. Is there a central ritual? Is the holiday an uplifting event? What is its place in the larger religious calendar?
It seems to me the short film spends much of it's time discussing the logistics of where people sleep and how they might avoid injury on the crowded streets, but the filmmaker ignores the value of the actual event.
Visually it's an interesting pod, but please slow down your pans. They don't reproduce smoothly on the internet viewing screen.

Very interesting stuff here. I like your audio. Your cuts were clean and helped the telling of this story. = GL!
When you have some time please stop by and check out my pod: Susan Cagle, let me know what you think about it, thanks! -
Fascinating, with some wonderful footage. I'd like to see a bit more close ups of individuals and the subtitles are sometimes washed out. I do love the fresh perspective and varied opinion of the interviewee. Great work, Id love to see more.
Please check out my first pod, We Create: link
Much Thanks,

more insight into the spirituality of the event

GL. I want to see more of the event though.

Okay finally a POD I can get my teeth into. The last 10 POD's I have seen today were crap and I was starting to loose hope.
As far as a critique goes, I have seen other works on this event and hope you continue to work on it. Be careful of the audio and try to get a tripod because the camera handling was just a little too shaky (just a little nit picky). GL

informative

Some of the translation text changes too quickly. Otherwise this is a fascinating pod.
