The African American idea of Africa is one full of interpretation, modification and originality. Musician and visual artist Vernon Reid (Living Colour) explores these topics in a unique art show entitled Artificial Afrika. Director John Carluccio follows the talented Reid as he prepares and promotes the opening, complete with observations by Village Voice columnist Greg Tate, participating artists Dread Scott and Accra Shepp.

This is great to see. There's plenty of coverage of Africa stressing poverty, AIDS, famine and disease. I'm not saying they're not important. But that's not all we want to hear about. Challenging perceptions. Food for thought. GL and look forward to seeing more. AJ

I agree with Rizak. Perhaps if you had started with the artwork it would've held my attention the first time I saw it. 2nd time around, I think it's a worthy piece. GL.

I'd completely lost track of Vernon Reid. Good to see he's still around & still innovating. Good laying out of story, good lineup of interviews -- GL!

Maybe it's because I haven't slept but I lost interest about a minute in. Didn't know what was going on.
