Longitude's work in Ghana starts with Meshach Bondzie who began his non-profit secretarial school called PROFESA in Abeka, Ghana in 2000 because too many young adults in his community were forced to drop out of high school due to the rising cost of school fees.
LONGITUDE is a non-profit organization based in Providence, Rhode Island, devoted to supporting the work of PROFESA and thereby improving the lives of their clients. We are dedicated to the work of these leaders of educational and human rights initiatives in the hopes of achieving change from within the community.

really good story. there needs to be more pods like this, informing us of things in far away places. some interviews/points of view from the students might make it more diverse and have more of an impact.

Thank you for the comments and the GL. We shot about 26 hours of footage and this spot was put together as a brief preview for a meeting that Longitude had last week with a local funding agency. The non-profit Longitude www.golongitude.org was started by my good friend Shawn and his wife and my partner Jessica Jennings and I volunteered our time and resources to go to Ghana for 10 days to produce this for Longitude. We are working on a more complex, layered piece that will have more detail and interviews (current & former students and employers). I will keep you up to speed on its progress as we move forward with this piece.
Thanks again,
John L

Excellent! An inspiration! Two nights ago a went to hear Paul Hawken speak at the open of his book tour of his book..."Blessed Unrest" whic "reveals a worldwide grossroots moevement of hope and humanity" These are the moments that keep me going in this very twisted state of the globe. If you get a moment..Our pod is... link

Nice piece. I would have liked a little bit of explaining in the begining where we are what were doing who this guy were talking to. I know you explain that in the description. But I think a bit needs to be in the pod, you could put text over the intro bit showing the kids, doesn't need to be a lot, I might have missed it with his accent. I thought it was a well shot piece, I liked the interviewe detication. I wouldn't have minded listening to a students point of view, but it is still strong with out it.

GL

I'd love you here what you think about our piece "Xtreme Waste"

Great images, creative shots, good montage in the beginning--well done! It wasn't quite clear exactly how the project is related to the US organization though. I'd also have liked to have seen more interviews with other people. The images of the old typewriters were incredible though. Like that one, really all the shots were well thought out in terms of lighting, angles, etc.

Good work! GL!

Thanks for the encouraging words. My ascent was methodical, but it's all about putting out something some people will find interesting and making sure you make your rounds here daily. It may take a minute, but keep giving your honest critique and not just a, "Looks good...check out my pod", and people notice you. With that, I wish you good luck. My next goal is to skip this whole process and go straight to tv.

Takes me back ... there is a nostalgia and a sadness that it is the same struggle in so many areas of Africa. Absolutely beautiful, wonderfully edited. I look forward to more.
