Acoustic Lap Slide Guitar Rag

Cross tuned National lap slide (using stevens bar). Strange tuning intervals and tonality, written originally as a song for film, the tempo was of a New Orleans funeral march. Trial recordings included fiddle, Tuba and trombone.

A note: we do not normally accept music performance pieces that do not have some sort of dialogue. But this one in particular, we thought was exceptional because it is sort of a rare/unique style. You know, different. We don't see this every day.

Now, I'm hoping to receive a slew of pods from people playing the guitar in the most bizarre ways possible.

    jk.

    :p

Hi Staff, thanks for the nice comments everyone. Name is MARK HEWINS; (see about me here) or; link
The 'lap' technique is a very ancient slide guitar style. However as an improvising Musician I have adapted the tuning on this (1934) National Resonator guitar. I will post some more extreme guitar techniques as you suggest. Love the site BTW. Respects for keeping our copyright safe. Its important for working artists. The popular fellows can afford to let a few tunes under the wire, but as a working artist I can ill afford to lose any finacial momentum. Looking to work with other people here....

Its a great talent, and I'd love to be able to do that, but its not what i want to watch on TV, I can imagine this as background music for something though.

Just right for a filler on TV.

yeah--- i'm a big fan. in this world of over analysis and soundbites, sometimes it is relaxing and wonderful to just watch a dude play the guitar...

this was awesome! GL good friggin job. the simplicity of just the guitar shot throughout, might confuse some people. this style of guitar is really interesting. excellent, but maybe color correct it for ultra snazzy coolness. :)

If you get a chance check out my Current Promo <a href="http://www.current.tv/watch/27174409?list=newVidsByProducer&filterone=220425.../a>

this is really cool. wish i were that good. its good enough for tv, buttt. at the same time it might be a little, i guess you would say boring. because it just shows the guitar, not the person playing it anything else. its not good enough for a podcast. :/ sorry

I'm greenlighting it but it needs some dialogue - the guitarist talking about how long he's been playing/his influences/technique and maybe some footage of the player walking the streets or something. It could be much more powerful. And I would have like to have seen and heard the fiddle, tuba and trombone. Nice.

Stick a current logo at the end and you've got a great Promo.

On its own I still give it a GL. Someone commented earlier that it's cool to just watch someone play... I agree.

Thank you for commenting on my own BOOM OF CAN ART video. Your GREENLIGHT wasn't counted, so please come through and show your approval... I would love your approval.

I just left an approval for your video, too. Solid work; the audio from the video doesn't do the actual audio justice, I'm sure. When you leave a "GreenLight" on my CAN ART video, can you leave any advice for me?.

This was our first film here and yes the audio leaves a little to be desired, its from the camera only. Hope to improve the film with time, but we'll see how it goes with Current first. See if its worth it. I'm committed at the moment. MH

Very talented musician. Great debut here at Current. My only suggestions would be to use an external mic, and shorten the rag a little. It definitely could work as a Promo, as it has already been said on another comment. But... I am sure you already know all that. Nice work, though. GL from me.

When you have a moment, please take a look at my art related pod BIG BUGS , and let me know what you think about this reverse perspective on the world. Thanks!
