  • An excellent event!

  • Very cool idea, and some excellent art. The glare of the photographer's work really bugged me, I couldn't see her work. I'd like to see more.

Interesting characters who have lots to say. The revolution will be shown on the internet. GL.

  • pretentious artists producing pedantry art pisses me off. thank you
  • Just cut it down to the bare essentials!
  • Its a great idea for a piece. The artists are pretty good characters. I agree with earlier comments that the piece has too much fat on it. Trim it down to the essentials. [FYI - i have the same issue with my own work]
  • Stay free.

  • i like the way your pod makes me feel! could be shortened up some, but way to showcase the greatness. create on! gl from kendallfresh.
  • What a cool party! Great idea! My only comment is to maybe shorten it up just a tad. Nice job!

    Hey Joel,

Thank you for the compliment. Yah, the promo section is a little buried at the moment. Hopefully Current will fix that soon! You can see more of my work at www.crank-design.net

    Good luck with your pod!

  • A little slow in few spots, but overall an interesting look at what it is to be an artist.

  • LIke others have pointed out, this needs to be tightened up. It's a neither/nor thing right now: We don't really get the full experience of the salon, and we don't really get enough of the artists to form a satisfying picture of them. If I were to choose one, I'd go for telling the story of the salon, letting the artists and what they're doing illuminate the event. Don't linger at length on each interview -- just use enough of each person's words to show how it all comes together. Also, if you've got more footage of artists interacting with one another, get that in there too. There's probably a good story here, work to bring it out.
  • first of all, awesome pod! its nice to hear what the different artists are all about and what they are trying to do. I think this is a wonderful piece that definitely needs another cut or two.

There needs to be more introduction in the beginning of what the place is... it seems to start way to slow. For example, I guess I don't really think we need to bathroom with the interesting string. I understand it helps to show the environment and mood of the place, but I think its off topic. And while the first interview with the lovely comic artist is interesting what with the bit on the 24-hr comic challenge (which is fascinating to me!) it is not relevant to this piece. And actually you could probably afford to cut down all of the interviews. What a good problem to have! There is so much here. I think cutting it will help get your point across even more.

Great potential, would love to see this develop! Oh and thank you so much for watching my Scottish Ramble pod!

  • I agree, lots of potential just needs to be tightened up a bit.

  • Good party, nice place and characters but need to have a focus, like a theme party with proceeds going to charity.

  • Thanks everyone for the terrific comments. I agree with the modifications you've all suggested and Im in the process of fixing it. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to repost the same video and not lose how far Ive gotten?

    Thanks again everyone.
    JoeVisco
  • When you upload, there should be a list that turns up somewhere (I forget where) that allows you to repost rather than starting a new pod.

Let me know when you update.
  • Fun event, some really nice art. GL from me.

  • Well Done! GL!

  • I will wait to score until you make changes. For such a long piece, it moved at a quick pace. You didn't dwell on any one person. You has musical interludes between artists. It was cool. I think all you have to do is find a way to trim about 2 minutes off of it and it's good to go. I also like the way it start, with a "tour" of the house and THEN the explaination of what's going on.

  • Nice work. It's heading in the right direction most definitely. More importantly, I think the subject matter is extremely important to recognize. Out here in Buffalo, NY, some friends and I co-owned an art space called Kitchen Distribution in an old warehouse we had renovated ourselves hosting lots of artists and musicians. I think the biggest message we wanted to put out there was pretty much the fact anyone could do it with a little bit of ambition. I think it's a really great to show a community that makes it's own opportunities intstead of waiting for them to come around. Keep up what you are doing.
  • GL! Please do more with that Catfish guy. How about if he gives video lessons on how to be a good citizen?
  • Thank you everyone for your helpful comments. We have shortened and improved the quality of our video. We hope you enjoy it and be sure to give us your vote as well as tell us about your video. Thanks for the support!
    JoeVisco
  • Interesting content, perhaps it might shorten it a little dividing the screen in 2 when you show the place and some of the artist creations, at first.
    GL deserved!

  • I like the topic of this piece -- makes me want to hang out with the artists!

I do think that the pod could be shaved and trimmed significantly to keep it snappy. Listen to your audio track alone, without video, with your eyes closed, and you'll get a strong sense of what's most relevant and interesting to keep, and what to shave.

But GL for what's up now, 'cause it's got great potential.

  • Hey Joe,
Thank you for your encouraging and suggestions for my video The Voice of the Murmurs. I appreciate your thoughts. I would greatly appreciate your support for helping me to get the voices out to the public for those kids at the orphanage. Thank you for your support in helping me push this story ahead. Cheers mate. Danielmklopp~
  • Great work! Very interesting, I do feel it could be told in much less time. I would focus on the interviews you feel are most interesting and cut about 3 minutes out. Great piece for TV, but I'm worried about copyright laws and the music you use (Lilly Allen etc.) GL
  • As per continued response we are, yet again, bringing the video back to the drawing board with more revisions to help trim additional fat (this piece used to be 20 minutes) its nearly anorexic now, but still has value. Please enjoy how it stands now and be aware that a final version shall appear soon.

    Thanks for everyones continued responses!

  • Hey Joe,

I like the direction this is going. I feel your pain about cutting your work down. The Pod format is a tricky one sometimes. Especially if you really feel like you have a lot to say about something.

I look forward to seeing your next version.

  • Hey this is really cool... I really dig what you guys are doing. I enjoyed watching it. You have a lot to show and a lot of interviews with many things to say. It seems to be presented in realtime... meaning the interviews aren't cut for time, they last as long as they were in real life. If you cut those to only the most important points and only show the most creative work it would move quicker... You'd be giving us enough to enjoy but not get full. I guess it would be a bit shorter then too, but that's always a welcomed side affect.
  • could be a little shorter. This is a great event to do a pod on. I like to see a community come together in support of each other. Catfish guy is right on target! Could see a story on him in the future. GL from us!

  • i love the art scene in chicago. i'm just north of you guys in milwaukee and im down often. great piece. it is long but it's interesting.

I don't know if i have invited you already -- but I'd love your feedback on a pod i did on the Milwaukee art museum: "a midwest oasis"
  • I like these community-type projects. Kudos!
  • Looks like a cool event. I like the premise and the pod. My only critisism (not saying anything new) is that it's a bit too long. Also, about 4 minutes in, you flat out state that the event is for sharing, selling, networking, etc. Might help to put that right up top for us simple folk who weren't exactly sure what the event is all about.

    GL.

  • hey there-- this cut is much better! i think you could be even more brutal and edit even more out. :) but it is a lot better---the very beginning is solid! make sure you are keeping in mind the length of each individual shot. there should be a consistancy with in each one and it should create a rhythm. snap your fingers each time you cut to get a sense of the rhythm. this always helps me out. good luck!
    joeyday
  • Getting better, shorter, snappier, etc. thanks everyone for the helpful comments. Be looking for the updated version next week sometime.

  • I'm a fan of creating!! Keep it up.

  • Good job shooting a variety of interview subjects. This is a really interesting story that will work well on Current. It's always good seeing DIY events, and especially artists coming together.
  • great video!
can't wait for the next party :)
  • Joe:
Dude, I'll be in Chicago in a couple of weeks to do a follow up shoot for my friend up on the LSD. I'll be down there around the 18th of May. At any rate, the new piece to follow this is Journey of the Run. It's preparing to shoot a piece down in Peru. Anyway, if you could check out the pod and give your input. If you'll be around in mid-may, perhaps we could join effort on shooting the next piece.
    Peace bro~

  • You're an inspiration! We definitely want to do this in Houston, too... but give you credit for the concept. This is brilliant!
