On May 1, 2007 a peaceful immigration rally in Los Angeles went bad as the LAPD took action. In what can only be described as a military style operation on American soil.

    Great Job JV

This is shocking to say the least...this needs to be on TV!

Very good work, lots of commotion. The police definetly overeacted, and I hate how they are so brute to peaceful citizens, even knocking that camera man over, as if he was doing something wrong. They used those people as riot practice. Check out my sony commercial if you want.

This is exactly the kind of video that needs to be shown... It shows where this democracy is going, it is going straight into a police state... Stop Police Oppression... I support more videos like this, lets show what the man in blue really does, protect and serve (protect the money and serve the rich)...

You think in this day and age they'd be alot more careful about their actions. Someone's always watching in eventually everyone else will. Welcome to future.

Getting this on Current TV is just one of the reasons I'm glad the channel exists and that I get it. I would like to hear the police or city's explanation in this video, although I doubt they could muster a very good one.

Wow! Man I heard about this on the news today. Current really needs to get this on the air now. I cannot believe they were shooting at the journalists. That pisses me off. I am totally shocked. I just want to yell!

It is a little fuzzy...at times..but it shows..what I have been saying about Demonstrations..
We really are not allowed to show how we feel...
Man in Berlin..the cops at Demonstrations by teenagers... the teens make the cops run...because it's their time the people have a voice..and untill they fly off the handle..there should be nothing done by the cops...at all...

This is unfortunate for all involved and I commend you for hanging in there and filming what you did. One thing to keep in mind is that being a cop is a tough gig, nobody films them doing the good things that they do, which is 99% of the time. It's always the rare events like this that make news and everyone starts screaming about losing our freedoms. I agree that it looks like excessive force was used in this situation and the LAPD needs to be accountable, but lets not go overboard either with dramatic effect text like "military style operation on American Soil." The footage speaks for itself without you trying to persuade the viewer to your interpretation of the events. There is also always two sides to every story and you only have one. I'll greenlight it though, I think it should be seen, good job.

I would like to say that there was no clear presentation of the purpose of the rally. There's no clear evidence of the citizenship of the rally participants. Many times, the purpose of these rallies is proclamation of
"Mexicans' right" to America. There was not enough information presented in the video to do anything except garner sympathy for illegal immigrants. I would go as far as saying that this video is crappy propaganda, ands it should not be on TV. I myself am totally against limitation of american liberty, but what was the rally for? Why didn't someone interview a police officer to learn why they did carry out this crowd control measure? Granted, big crowd control operations go overboard, but that is not the issue. The issue is whether there was some kind of miscommunication, or whether there were individuals involved who were purposefully enforcing tyranny, or whether the police actually did have reason to do what they did, or any number of things that are neccesary for the audience to make an informed decision or opinion regarding public policy. There is no story. There is no presentation, It's all sensational with no real direction. RL.

At the beginning, why are they waving Mexican flags? Aren't they Americans now?

are you able to slow-mo any of the shaky footage to make it easier to see some of the graphic details? i'm horrified by your incredible video. it's so much more powerful than the video footage i watched from this event on fox 11. thank you for posting it!

    audinfilm
  •

To Telestai: The purpose of this video was in no way to "garner sympathy for illegal immigrants." That is why I talked to people of multiple races and showed people ranging from Hispanic teenagers to 60+ yr old white news reporters all being roughed up in the same manner. The purpose of the video was to depict the absolute disregard for human rights / and the out of control response by the LAPD to an otherwise peaceful demonstration. I am in now way trying to express an opinion one way or the other on immigration.

To audinfilm: I tried using the slow mo technique but it wasn't really working that well. I might try experimenting with it again though.

Wow! This is horrifying! Thank you for being there and bravely (not to sound cheesy) continuing to film as much as you could. I'm normally a proponent of anybody in uniform, but this is such a blatant disregard for citizens and an abuse of power that I can't help but feel frightened. Thank you for sharing-- I truly feel this is something that everyone should see.

The footage is really powerful. Some of the copy is a bit heavy handed, but at least you have a point of view!

For a side issue about Mexico and America, check out my pod, "Retiring in Exhile," about an American couple who relocated to Mexico.

Not sure if it's ready for TV, and my vote doesn't really count, but I thank you very much for doing this. It's really intense. This world is so intense. Gosh.
