Traditional Chinese morning excercises, like Tai Chi, are still practiced regularly by China's elder generation, a generation that fears the tradition will die with them. Watch the daily morning ritual as captured in Hangzhou, China's most famous park.

  • Very nice visuals and music, however the POD gets let down by the lack of interviews. The description talks about the old people thinking this tradition would die with them, it would have been nice to hear it in their own words. I guess you were working alone, and didn't have an interpreter of 'fixer'.

  • Great music and video. I like that it is a wash of images and you let us think about it without the need to explain or interview. It is wonderful to take the time to just witness human life through this window. I am very inspired by this and look forward to more videos in this style. GL. Please take a look at my pod, "Doing My Part/Solar Energy" listed under the Environment section.

  • You can also see this morning ritual in Washington Square in San Francisco. North Beach borders Chinatown and many of the elderly begin their day like this. GL

Please take a look at Sister Beatrice Explores if you get a minute. She knows a little Tai chi too!
  • gorgeous!!!!
  • feels good.
  • Really beautiful. It captures a fading side of China that we forget in the West in the midst of all the coverage of smokestacks, cities emerging overnight from farmland and all the "Made in China" detritus that surrounds us...
  • Wow I love the way you produce these pods! Amazing!

  • I went to Hangzhou myself for 5 months last year. as you can see in the video, a lot of elderly people are into ballroom dancing. A lot of the kids took up rollerblading in Hangzhou as well. Eventhough this is happening I do not believe that tai chi is dying in china. it is still practised on basicly every square in china, you just have to wake up early enough to see it.
