By the numbers, Philadelphia is a violent city. This pod explores reasons for the violence and potential solutions, by speaking with some of those who have been affected by tragedy.

I am glad this went directly to TV. This is my home town. I moved out west two years ago. While I am proud of some elements of Philly it is in sad state of poverty and violence.

I cant comment on a city I have never been to but...The Center for "The prediction, prevention and processing of crime" doesnt seem to have addressed anything during the film. . Guns and knives are blighting areas in London (nothing like America though). Get to the meat of the matter...people all over the undeveloped world are poor, but dont neccessarily resort to extreme violence. Having said that I know nothing of Philly but a mirror image of violent shooting and stabbing is happening in England, mainly related to gang culture and the easy availability of knives and especially guns but mainly through lack of basic respect. Well thats the view from Blighty, keep your pecker up...

Well done.
I like this one a lot, but it needs a little work. Loved the beginning -- very strong, but going to the academic really brings it down. I stayed with the piece, I'm not sure if your average Joe would. The parents that follow have much stronger voices.
Is there another way you can give the dry data without a suit? I'm not trying to knock the important contribution he makes to reduce guns and raise awareness, I'm just not sure if he works well in this piece...at least at that point. -
When the government resorts to war in Iraq to deal with the terrorist threat which is a tactic and one that Iraq had nothing to do with; and the gun lobby suggests arming the students of Virginia Tech so they can "take out" a shooter if necessary, it's not surprising people express hopelessness and anger by using easily available firearms.
My suggestion would be to introduce better gun control legislation; fund schools to create a better educated population which would diffuse hopelessness and despair that make guns and violence seem like the only solution.
Let's have more creative solutions and talk about what makes people resort to violence in the first place.
Check out Sister Beatrice Explores if you get a chance. She has a few crazy ideas of her own.-
