Interesting way to tell a story and show your collection of photographs of our flag. Two things bothered me. One, didn't like the "star spangled banner" as played by a kazoo. It sounded horrible and was terribly distracting. Two, after the reading, you had some cheesy midi music that was supposed to be patriotic. But, again, it was of such poor value. And it didn't fit with the beginning of the piece. Just find a way to end it after your reading and it'd be better.

Thank's Trevor. I really appreciate your comment. The music, particularly the kazoo piece, is meant to be a little satirical. I guess it's not always successful.

Could have used some video footage, but I'll greenlight it simply because I learned something from this. Very interesting and strange.

I'm preparing a new version. Shorter and smarter based on what I've heard thus far from these comments and from emails. This will be the final piece. Should be ready by day's end, hopefully.

Hey I liked the music. I personally would have like the pictures to become more absurd as the film progressed, maybe the music too. I also felt you didn't really need to introduce the film. Maybe an patriotic American voice over would have been good.

But heck! Fabulous photography. I was in the States when they went flag crazy, I had forgotten all about it.

I agree with the comments on here already. I'm anxious to see the revised version.

Thanks again folks. Wow, I'm learning a lot. Multimedia work is new to me. Next project will have video, stills, ambient audio and music combined. As regards this flag piece, it's processing right now and will likely take another couple of hours. Then I'm off on assignment so it might be tomorrow before it's uploaded.

Okay, I've just finished uploading the new, shortened version. It's more acute now, I hope, concentrating on just the more absurd images and narration. I've also slackened off on the music. Please spread the word about this project. I'll be travelling for the next 3 1/2 weeks and so will not be able to make much noise about the film though I will try to check in from time to time to see what people think of it. This is a first for me and I have many more such projects in the pipeline some of which will include video as well.

This is pretty rad. I have never heard all the 'rules & regulations' for the flag. It's very interesting to see all your beautiful images combined with the message. The advertising part really shocked me. I mean, how many commercials do you see the flag in?! It's crazy. Good work, & congrats on being the staff pick.

I can just barely hear the audio portion, but this is an AWESOME video otherwise.

Awesome pod. Great job at letting the pictures and the rules tell the story. When it lists the "napkins, cups" and the other stuff about advertising, it absolutely points out where blind patriotism has led us. We can't even get flag etiquette down, how can we possibly get our eroded rights back?

very good wry humoured video.. however i feel the images could of been structured better, in that there were images that matched up perfectly to some dialogue but where placed earlier or well after it, such as the american flagged sweet wrapper "shouldn't be used for anything that is to be discarded" etc.

the kazoo playing the star spangled banner was a very nice touch :)

The sequencing here is based primarilly on the images and how they flow together. The narration is secondary. Besides, I don't have images that illustrate, one way or another, each of the rules.
Perhaps as I continue and develop the project over the coming months and years, I can consider this approach.

the only constructive comment I have is to do more "see and say" this being: the photos could match what is said a little more. this would aid in the concepts and contradictions. But on the other hand showing something other than exactly what is said kind of adds another layer of meaning onto it.

Another bug in the system. I forgot to log in first so it had me do so when I GL'd it. Then it suggests I leave a message, so I type a lengthy comment and hit submit. Then it simply flushes my work (except for the GL) and leaves me swearing at the computer. If Current had a flag...I would burn it! Oh well, nice, informative with a little bit of satire..or a whole lot depending on where you sit :)
