30 days after New Jersey enacted civil unions for same sex couples as the law of the state, the first Gay and Lesbian wedding expo took place in Edison, N.J.
Despite countless states passing laws and amendments banning same-sex civil unions and marriage, the gay marriage industry is booming in the USA.
A UCLA School of Law study predicts N.J. gay weddings & tourism related businesses could make up to $102.5 million per year for the first three years.
That's $7.2 million per year in tax revenue for the state of New Jersey.
We visited the first ever gay & lesbian wedding expo in the state of New Jersey on Wednesday March 21st and interviewed the organizers, vendors and several couples planning their weddings.

Well edited and with excellent music that was just right, good interviewing techniques too. Totally greenlighted!
-
Thanks man, this was a really great story to cover. I think we were the only media at the event except for NY1. Another story under the radar by the MSM. -zen
-
Total GL as well. You did a good job of covering this event and story from all different types of angles. The cake and clothing vendors were great to see. They seemed to really be embracing this new client base.

The V.O. feels out-of-place -- maybe replace with titles? Good story otherwise, and worth the GL.

great topic. very CURRENT. what's better -- you tell it in away that is engaging. GL
if you get a chance i'd like you're thoughts on my pod: "a midwest oasis" -
this is a great video and offers a small percentage of what was offered at the show. All of the vendors seemed to be as excited as the attendees.
Please don't forget that balloons can be a beautiful photo backdrop or great for a shower! -
Thanks for the comments everyone. -zen

Torry Events provided beautiful ceremony and cocktail music on keyboard for this wonderful, exciting and historic event. Great video and happy to hear the positive feedback from attendees. We were pleased to be a part of it and wish everyone congratulations as they plan for their special day! -Cindy Torry, Torry Events LLC.

good production. interesting throughout. GL!

I am all for laws that allow people to be with whom ever they want to.
And while watching this piece has hilighted a great new ruling for gay and lesbian couples, it has also made me wonder whether this was a social / liberal / equality-based decision or simply a way of opening a huge new market to feed the economy.
I guess it could be both.
As cynical as this may sound, I do believe that in the West, if there's a market ... there's a way.
-
Oh, and GL.
I think the piece was effective because it adopted a light-hearted, vox-pop style which suited the event. The voice-over and the statistics gave it the additional depth I feel it needed to become a good piece.
Well done. -
I am so sure that some of those vendors are totally not gay friendly, but hey- money is money! I loved it. GL.
-
Good interviews, good pace, good production, and apparently good cake.
Whether or not this expo is just about generating business, or the laws are being changed for tax revenue is second to the reality that itÂ’s about damn time this is available.
GL.

This is a subtle way to encourage tollerance, so GL.
Of course I don't have to tell you that the production is fluent . I'm sure it will be picked for tv. -
good stuff. Great editing and music choices. Good interviews and very pertinent. GL!
-
your work is uber good. this piece was terrific. it's interesting to think about tourism to n.j. for civil unions, but yes indeed it will be inevitable! go n.j! very relevant piece and timely. i like the music, and your voice overs. very professional. gl from kendallfresh.
if you would check out my pod, i would like to know what your thoughts on my work, too.-

I like this a lot. Someone who knows how and when to use a voice-over! :) You don't linger on shots. You shot plenty of cutaways. You dropped the music track when there was a confict with location sound. Content is interesting and tight.
OK - criticisms - we don't see you but we see your arm and hear your voice. I'd maybe have done a short piece to camera to open and close it, it would have made the interviews easier of the eye because we'd have known you. (Always shoot a few "Noddys" as well).
I noticed you hung on to the last caption to get the music in! I'd have pushed the music up (with an edit at the previous interview where you had to drop the volume anyway) to fit the music to some snappy end credits.)
None of which is serious enough to prevent a Green Light. Well done! :)-

Thanks for the compliments oldvideopro. I think I'm getting over my reluctance to appear on camera (I am the cake eater), which is my first ever cameo in a pod. I'm actually considering moving to a hand held shotgun mike in a windsock vs. the handheld microphone in future shots. I also wish there were two of me, so I could have framed the shot you're talking about (my disembodied arm) a little tighter, but that's the tradeoff when you move from behind the camera to the front, you trust your cameraman. Your critique is well taken though, and your comments are appreciated. I think the next time I go handheld I'll do an opening standup on camera, I was hesitant to do one. -zen

Nice work brotha, finally a none movie review pod, I thought it was very good, which didn't suprise me. I was going to make the comment that was already made that if were going to see your arm from no where familerize us with you. Good none the less, good topic and very well put together.
If you get a chance I would really love your input on our latest pod. Xtreme Waste.
Cheers Talbott-

Wonderful! Although I was curious: Why was the lady wearing a wedding dress? Had they just gotten married at the expo?

Hey Kanani, my understanding was this couple was wearing their dress and suit they were married in a month earlier. I was introduced to them by the table of the videography company who filmed & photographed their entire wedding ceremony. They were the first official married couple in the town of Lambertville, N.J. after the civil-unions bill was enacted, their civil union license reads "Town of Lambertville: 2007, #0001". -zen

The Quinones couple was NOT the first couple in Lambertville NJ to be civilly-unioned. And there is no #0001 certificate. Mayor David Del Vecchio married Beth Asaro & Joanne Schailey at 12:01 on 2/22/07 in Lambertville. They were the first couple in NJ! Google it - it's clear as a bell - there is no Quinones..>!

err, that's why the pod says they were the SECOND married couple in Lambertville under NJ's new civil union bill. (shrugs)
