With temperatures in the UK soaring and air pollution on the increase there's not a better time to think about how we make short journies.

With most daily commutes being a one-person per car affiar of less than 10 miles each way, single seat electric vehicles make an ideal commuter car for anyone who lives and works in an urban or semi-rural location.

This Pod is about changing the way we drive and saving both money and the environment by leaving the big car at home and taking the funky, single seat City El electric car instead.

The City El, which is made in Germany and costs less than 6000 euros brand new, can travel at up to 36mph for 30 miles or more and costs only 1.5 pence per mile to drive.

Fancy saving up some money for the weekend?

  • Love the fact that you're passionate about the subject (which translates to the screen really well), and that it's informative too. Importantly it also runs to the right length. Content-wise though it's similar to the pod about the G-Wiz (<a href=" http://uk.current.com/pods/ride/PD05794)">link&... which I'm pretty sure I have already seen on the TV in the UK. As such you might have been beaten to the punch on this subject and might struggle to get aired. Regardless, a great first effort though, you've obviously worked hard! Well done. Look forward to more.

  • Thanks :)

There are more in the pipeline - more test drives of Electric cars etc - but sadly my Mac and my Camera don't want to talk to each other all the time :(

    It's very frustrating. I have a heap of VT I can't edit!
  • Always want to boost interest in alternative vehicles. GL

Your audio level is uneven. Could use a tweak. I f you feel like it.

Check out Sister Beatrice Explores if you get a chance. She rides a bicycle sometimes.

  • wowow! interesting car! great piece!! GL!

check out my Sony HD vcam! i'd like to know what ya think!
  • Well done!

A very easy watch, which is also very informative. Clearly presented with good shots of the car too.

I have been checking out electric cars for a while actually ... and I really want one of those!!! How much has your electricity bill increased by? How many miles do you do per week?

    GL from me.

  • Well, it costs about 1.5 pence per mile to drive one of these (which is the average for most EVs in the UK today). Road tax is free; insurance is cheap and you can get a range of 30 miles or more if you install good quality batteries. Look after your car and it's batteries and you can travel for two to three years on a set. I just replaced my batteries recently at a cost of £280.
  • Electric...now that is what I am talking about.
GL..all the way, that is a cool car.(motorcycle?)

could you please give me your comments on my new piece B-Green.

    thanks

  • This is would be a great vehicle to charge with solar or alternative power. Did you mention how far the vehicle would go on a charge? Oh, I see in the description it says 30 miles. The audio fluxuations were kind of distracting, but could probably be fixed. I didn't want to wait for the greenlight though as this is such an important subject at this time. Thanks
  • Some of the speaking is cut off by the noise of the car. Great topic, we need more cars like these, but I feel that the ending negated the point of the entire video "go buy a porsche" ???
    mussy
  • Thanks for that. I did actually mean that if someone drove electric during the week they could join a car club and "Splurge" on a fast petrol car once a week. The comment was kind of flippant and put in when the video was aimed at something else. But thanks for your input. I'm hopefully going to have another video ready soon (as soon as my video camera starts to behave!)
  • nice. you did a good job in front o da camera, very at ease, make some more.
  • I wish I could get one of those in Michigan :)
  • Love the car its great ! Well done with the video, I'd love to see it on air. GL
  • you should race these things!
just give it to topgear, they'l sort things out! :P
    and its very green!
  • Interesting.. I love that car!
  • would like to see a person getting in or out of the vehicle. Jerky picture suggests a bumpy ride.

  • its funny i wnt a car like that its well good
  • What about more stories on conversions of small commuter cars?
    tlepac
  • That is the kind of car the US needs Small and not so crazy big, but then again we are all fat and wont fit in it, and we are all too full of our selfs to think that that is something to drive.

    I love this pod
  • green light for you aminorjourney

  • A very nice car pity its only for one person.

  • £6000 for a 3 wheels motorbike, what a rip off! The money and pollution you save in petrol it will go to the power station. Batteries are highly toxic to manufare and almost impossible to recicle,so is not a solution for the enviroment. Parking will be good and also no congestion charge on it, but to me it does not look a safe vehicle to be running on the road.

  • GL Great piece!

Check out Sister Beatrice Explores. She walks everywhere but if she drove she'd use one of these.

  • This is an exceptional banana. Really like your pod!

would love to see more of them on the roads.
  • I want an electric car! My main concern at this point is how it would handle in snow.

    Thanks for making this pod!
  • I want to drive the banana!!!
  • I'm doing without cars altogether - as I just don't really need to own one in London, or my former home of NYC. I've heard a story that an electric car was developed by a US company a few years ago - but all were scrapped, because of powerful automobile lobbying. Anyone know the facts on that? Apparently thousands of cars were abandoned and dumped out west. Hard to believe, but I guess when a large industry is underthreat, radical things happen to preserve status quo. Appreciate the piece - and it is short, to the point and interesting to watch. And I normally really really hate watching anything about cars, as they just bore me to tears.
