  • Great idea...it's a wee bit too long for my tastes, but I absolutely love the concept. It's brand of humor that resonates with me.

  • Hey everyone, I really like the video, but does anyone have the lyrics to the song? Thanks.
  • Hi Funkatronic, thanks for the post. In response to your question about the lyrics, they are a rough translation from an old Celtic hymn often sung on the hill of Tara in times gone by, and still today by Shane McGowan when he gets a bit locked and heads up there. Only when he drinks banana daiquiris though, for some reason.

  • the humor in this is so refreshing. i love the requests at the end, very nice.
i think that eight minutes is far to long though. perhaps shortening it up a lot in the beginning, cutting to the requests faster and then having the interview guide you through it. just a thought. :] good luck.

  • Thanks a million for the comments and the green light, joeyday. Will definitely look at shortening up the first section. Glad you enjoyed it!

  • Hi Nick,

    Thanks for the comments mate.

I watched your video and would like to give you my honest feedback.

I think it's funny. Definitely. And entertainment is the key.

The idea of a group of people that protest anything you want them to ... to basically emphasise that protesting, as we know it, doesn't really achieve anything. I think this is the crux of the film, which kind of comes out in the first couple of minutes.

Therefore, I think that the film is too long. You could probably halve the duration without losing too much info, so I'd consider shortening it .

If I had to nit-pick, like many films on here, the lighting is non-existent. Lighting doesn't usually matter in documentaries, but I found the guy's face in the interview was pretty dark and distracting.

Also, as the whole film was centred around ridiculing the act of protesting, I feel that there could have been some alternatives offered. It's all good and well saying that something doesn't work or something is no use ... but what the hell are we supposed to do when something really gets up our nose? Just take it?? If you re-edit the piece, consider perhaps offering some alternatives to regular protesting (possibly several alternatives, some funny / some serious).

And that's pretty much it really. As it stands, I think this is a funny idea that is probably a little too long. But I do believe it is potentially a very good piece.

I hope my comments have not come across as patronising and would be happy to continue the discussion.

Anyway, that's all I have to say. I look forward to seeing more.

  • Hi Serdar,

Thanks a million for the comments. Very decent of you to write out such an in-depth response.

As regards the length, I realise now that 8 mins is a little long. I'm new to Current and have since discovered that the shorter films tend to work better here. Most viewers have responded best to the final section of the film too, so I know I should get to that sooner.

Point taken about the lighting in the interview bits. It looks ok in its original form, but when the size of the film was reduced to allow it to be posted on line, the quality of the image really suffered there. I guess digital film just doesn't respond well to shadows. Have learned from that.

But for all its flaws, I'm not sure I'm quite ready to head back into the cutting room yet! I just finished it about a week ago and need to work on other things. But hopefully I'll get a chance to do another cut soon and will definitely be helped by all the comments and suggestions from Current members. I will let you know when I post a shorter version.

Thanks again, and congrats on the success of Elevator Music.

    Nick.

  • Very good and funny! Green light from me!
  • Really good, love it! I felt like I was there. No whinge is too small to be aired, those little things cumulatively matter. Well done to the protesters and the filmmaker! This should be on TV!

Great concept, catchy soundtrack, refreshing. Maybe a few more close-ups of the protestors would be nice. The human face speaks so eloquently.
