Concern Worldwide is currently running an innovative project as a response to food shortages in Malawi. Hilary Benn, the UK's Secretary of State for International Development (DFID), visited Malawi in February 2007 to see a DFID funded project in action.

Cool beans. I love how technology infiltrates itself into all walks of life, especially when it lends itself to a need. Feels like the kind of journalism Current looks for. See you on the other side I hope. GL.

Very nice, I just wish the government of African nations could get its act together, and stop relying on the west to solve our problems. GL
-
Very professional and sensitive approach to the subject - thought it was a BBC report at first.
Only criticism is that it might be a bit too long though - found my concentration drifting after 4 minutes. GL -
excellent ad. brilliant idea to empower people to choose how they use aid rescources. money goes back into local economy further developing local community.. everyones a winner!! more power to you at concern... :)
-
nice pod its lovely to hear from a part of the world we seldom hear from in the press. Although the issue of aid is not a new one, why not address a possible solution? Teaching those in need about Irrigation methods maybe? give someone a fish - they'll eat for a day - teach them how fish and they'll eat forever.
-
Very good. GL from me.

This is a really informative film - something that could definitely do with going on TV. Especially as it has the Secretary for State in it too.

While I think the subject is a good one and should be covered, this pod feels like an advertisement for Concern. This is not truly "vIewer created content", it is a piece of marketing for a big charity. As such, it is not a true reflection of thr kind of citizen-journalism that Current is devoted to. IMHO it should not be aired in its current form because it risks starting the channel down a path that leads to the airing of pods with conspicuous product placement by multinational corporations and potentially even 4 miunte infomercials. I'd suggest a re-edit and a storyboard that focusses less on the organisation behind the story and more on the story.

Dear Spaino,
Thank you for your comments. However - if you are watching Current TV, you will see that other charitable organisations, such as the Red Cross, are having their pods aired. There is also a pod based on a Red Cross project here: <a href=" http://uk.current.com/watch/1233656">link</a...
Why is this so different to ours? This short film features Hilary Benn exploring a specifc, pertinent issue. It is unusual to align this pod to conspicuous product placement by multinational corporations but your feedback is appreciated.-

I actually watch CurrentTV so much that I'm longing for new content - it's become repetitive - and I have not seen any pod air in the UK that could have been sponsored by a charity (or a non-charity).
The link you have provided does go to a pod very similar to yours. In fact it is one of four pods by the same producer that highlights the Red Cross' post-tsunami work. That producer however has not greenlit their own work to self-promote (as you have done) and does not have an obvious association with the charity (as you seem to). You indeed name your profile after the charity and in that profile provide a history of the charity, mention the work it does and provide a link to their website. I would not be surprised to find that you in fact work for them. I don't get the feeling that "Jigs" works for RCRC and therefore his uploads tend to feel more "honest" and aligned with CurrentTV's mission of broadcasting viewer-created content by citizen-journalists. Your pod (to me) feels like marketing in search of an audience. But that's subjective of course and opinions will vary.
What is not subjective however, and something that I think is very telling, is that the pod you link to (and the three others) were uploaded almost a year and a half ago and have never been considered for broadcast. As such it reinforces my belief that your pod needs to be re-edited to make it suitable for airing - with more focus on the story and less on the charity.
I am of course one voice and if you can show me a link to a pod that has aired and that is similar to yours I will of course hold to my view that I don't believe it to be citizen-journalist oriented enough to be aired - but with a (dangerous) precedent shown to have been set will agree to greenlight yours. -
