Art and Style
Produced by Julie Angel.Artists understand imagery symbols and information, therefore the role of the art activist can be to take information and reformat it for a larger audience.
Since the mid-90's, the United States Central Intelligence Agency has operated a programme called extraordinary rendition in which suspected terrorists captured in Western nations are transported to secret locations for torture and interrogation . The extraordinary rendition programme is largely carried out using leased equipment and private contractors. The Institute for Applied Autonomy, an anonymous collective of artists designers, activists and engineers, have created an imagined CIA travel agency specialising in extraordinary rendition flights, based on the information collected by plane spotters and journalists of actual specific flights of specific people who have been rendered.
The group's stated mission is to develop technologies that extend the autonomy of human activists in public acts of expression. The two week time frame of social conscious and memory is sometimes not enough when the issues are this serious. The installation was part of the Social hacking event in Plymouth.

    Very important content. GL.

Check out Sister Beatrice Explores If you get a chance. She can put two and two together and make five.

This is really intriguing. I like how you were able to do it without narrating it. It was pure content all the way thru. Very important subject matter as well. You do good work... Good luck with this. You got my GL! Check out my Flexible promo when you get a sec link

    elegantly done . .

scary how easy it is for these things to still happen, but maybe ultimately optimistic in that we might have a way to make them not happen!

Thanks for the comments so far, I feel the work being created by such organisations as the I.A.A. is a great way to communicate these complex and disturbing issues.

i agree with you JulieAngel - i think its good to give organisations like IAA some publicity. Like doc filmmakers, it seems like the IAA want to try and express things in a unique and visual way.

Nice work, Jules. I love the randomness of it happening in Plymouth! Interesting to see these sorts of projects happening outside of London.

    I love Current & I love this.

In the past my TV was permanently tuned into MTV Base to provide background entertainment when I am at home, it is now tuned to Current. Still hip and happening but far more informative, engaging and relevant to my stay on this planet.

This doc portrays everything I am feeling about Current, keeping me aware of what the real deal is on an international, independent level.

No more background static Current TV and Terminal Air have my complete attention.

I wish European countries would wake up to these flights and try and prevent them passing through their territory.

It's happening and our Governments condone it. When International law stands for nothing where does this position us on an international, moral and human level?

This is awesome! How did you find this subject? Did you know someone involved, or did you just come across it searching on the internet? This should totally be on Current. Great work.

GL. Thanks for putting this one together. We will soon be seeing how things have not at all been what we thought they were as this administration unravels before our eyes. This must get on TV ! Those interested in this may want to pick up a copy of "Armed Madhouse" by Greg Palast.

The IAA is an interesting collective and documenting their Terminal Air installation (shown at Plymouth City's Social Hacking event back in March) was great way of showcasing them. Can't fault this pod in any way. The pod has the right length, good editing, a great soundtrack, a clear narrative and the subject is sure to be of interest to CurrentTV's viewers. You're obviously an experienced filmaker with a good understanding of what your audience wants. (Haven't you also had a film about parkour aired on CurrentTV as well? I can't find it uploaded under "More From This Producer".) If 'Terminal Air' isn't aired by CurrentTV it will be a travesty. I'm going to subscribe via RSS your future video uploads.

I'd heard quite a bit about this - frightening stuff - power to the people getting this out into the public domain.
