This piece was co-produced by Wei Du.
It descends to a little-known network of tunnels underneath the campus of Columbia University. The tunnels used to serve many
important purposes but now they are the underbelly of the ivy league school, frequented by the bored, the rebellious and the adventurous.

I like the concept of the piece. I think your voiceover narration is great. But the camerawork really detracted from the piece. Very unsteady, and I don't think it really captured the scope and "coolness" of the tunnels. When I read the description of the pod, I envisioned elegant steadicam tracking shots through the tunnels. Grand architecture. Stuff like that. Now, I realize that a steadicam is probably asking too much, but some dramatic shots that highlight the architecture would be great.
So if you have another opportunity to go down there, I would definitely give the camerawork another go. Let me know if you update cause I'd watch again.-

It is absolutely interesting! The narration is excellent, and the story is really cool (I've been to Columbia many times and never would have thought there were tunnels beneath me!).
But I wish you could zoom out fa bit. Also, a lot of the things you spoke about were not even on camera (i.e. the "ferrous" wheel). Perhaps, if you cannot film again, you could take a photograph of these walls and play them instead of pieces of video, it could break up the video a little so the camerawork is not as distracting.
Also, some title screens could help. -
Was the right edge of your footage cut off somehow? I think the story was good but, I'm going to hold off on a GL because of the quality of the footage. It was especially detracting at the beginning during your introduction, when half of your face was cut off. Great subject. Good narration. Poor camera work.
-
Sorry, something went wrong with the file and only the upper left corner of the picture is shown. I am gonna reload it. And my camerawork is GOOD.
-
Very professional narration for an interesting subject but the handheld camera-work makes it difficult to watch. Have you got any shots from a tripod that you could replace them with, as even just a few would help. Apart from that good length and explaination.

I agree with all of the comments so far... nothing more to add except for the bad interlacing on the video.
Who ever is doing the narration is a absolute natural, should be on the news!!

Pay attention to composition, head room and lighting.
Invest in a tripod as well.-

I think this piece is great, very adventerous and it's crazy to see the kind of things simmering under Columbia.
-
improve video quality - too grainy and unsteady
-
It looks like you are shooting yourself with the handheld. It makes the framing look sloppy. Also, you may want to try the H.264 compression setting to clean it up a bit.
I love the story idea and the voice over is good. I think with a new beginning and ending... and better compression it will be a nice piece.
How can I get down there to see?? :-) -
The concept and narrative are fascinating and smart; the quality of the video is lousy and looks like a bad episode of funniest home videos

The Story is fine but it seems that your camera is alway offset up and to the left. Try to fix that...
-
You have very interesting story and I am sorry to say a lot of bad filming. That by watching the video I can see that you tried to cover it up by using the filters in you editing program. I would re film the video better quality lighting and attention to detail. Then re post it on Current I'm sure you would get more green lights.
-
really great idea for a story but everything seems to be just out of frame. the narrator also sounded like my 6:00 news team. be more natural and maybe more interviews.

Hey everyone!
We here at Current apologized to the producer of this piece as we allowed it to be released before it was in its proper format.
We are debating whether or not It would be fair to clear all the data and allow this pod to be reviewed as a new upload.
Please give this pod a fair shot. I personally, am a huge fan of the story and delight that Don has shared it with us. It's simply fun!

Much improved over the earlier cut. Kudos for sticking with the project. I really like your opening shot/monologue. And although I still feel the grand scope of the tunnels isn't fully being visually communicated, its a solid piece. GL

I like this piece though I thought the voice-over sounded more natural in the first version. I would watch the audio levels in the second half, they tend to drop and get lost in the backmix. GL.

Not to worry!
I've clicked a yes to balance it out. -
A bit short, and I would have liked to see more of a conclusion, but very interesting...GL.
Let me know what you think of my Sony spot...thanks! -
This is the kind of stuff that feature films are made about! Excellent subject. Watch your audio levels, though.

Awesome! I went to military school when in high school and they had the same kind of deal. We explored everywhere. The art just tops it all off in this pod! Really cool!

great piece. and there's nothing funnier than a good chemistry joke

Notre Dame has something similar to this, the tunnels are amazing that run underground. I love this pod because it shows the hidden parts that some colleges have. Green Light!!!

who knew the prestigious Columbia University had a dark side...this is awesome, very entertaining and well shot. I like that it is "exposing" something secret and rather sinister about a seemingly pristine university, not all that glitters is gold i guess : ) well done

i'd think about messing with the lighting to make it look more sketchy, but good piece. dave
-
The content is very interesting. My only suggestion would be to re-record the narration. I heard some plosives (poping of words with a "p" in it) and the transitions between b-roll dialogue and v.o. (voice over) could be a little more seamless.
Altogether, I think its a solid, informative product!-

Your ending is cut off too soon- not that you need more content, but you should let it linger and fade out- right now it seems like the end of the video is missing because of the way you chopped it.
