Clifton Wayne Lee left his Washington D.C. high school in the late 60s to fight in Vietnam. That defining event changed the course of his life and introduced him to drug and alcohol abuse. This piece juxtaposes his addiction to crack cocaine with the monumental architecture of Washington D.C., where he now lives on the street.

* With a whole new generation of young teens fighting in Iraq, it makes you wonder if we'll see those same kids suffering on the streets 35 years from now...
-
*Chances are they will be suffering on the streets - most likely in less than 35 years from now. This study indicates that veterans' homeless state is not always caused by combat duty, but by the mental illness & addiction. War - what is it good for?

I'd be seriously pissed if I'd gone to the vietnam war and then, when I'd come back, that the government wouldn't give me any retribution for all that I'd done for the country...! I'm mean like raging!!
