  • Beauty and brains!
  • "everywhere like such as" ........ LOL
she should never open her mouth again.
  • This should be the trophy video for why these contest need to just stop existing.

  • Sounds like she has this....
Wernicke's aphasics have different types of symptoms. Individuals with Wernicke's aphasia speak extremely fluently but with no informative purpose.
  • Or the trophy video for why these contests need to get more airtime.
  • I love reading Wernicke's aphasia transcripts!

  • She sounds a bit like our president. (Sorry. I just couldn't resist.)

  • Anyone else feel bad for A.C. Slater? Oh, how far he's come since Saved by the Bell...

  • Oh MAN! I didn't even realize that was him! Is this his comeback? Saved by the bimbo! And how did he keep a straight face when this girl was responding to the question??? Now THAT'S composure!

  • Oh, give her a break. Sounds like she just got nervous.

  • Nervous Schmerous
I don't buy it. She's likely been in pageants since she was 5 years old. She's just as dumb as a bag of hammers.

  • I'm not saying she's any kind of genius. Or that these pageants are a good idea. But it's not like she was espousing anything particularly objectionable up there. She just got nervous and started stammering. Gave me flashbacks to the fifth grade spelling bee.

I sometimes feel the Internet has increased the world's capacity for snarkiness, and not necessarily to its benefit.

  • LOL.... a bag of hammers, good one....... As for snarkiness, I believe that if I had been there in the front row, I'd have laughed equally as loud, maybe louder.
  • I am snarky. It is my best quality. The pity of this video is not that she got nervous or didn't know a good answer. The problem with the pageant is that we are even asking these girls questions like this and that for some reason an audience and judges would want to hear the answers about how to solve the world's problems from a person that has done nothing, but try to be beautiful, wear swimsuits and evening gowns well, and maybe know how to play the xylophone (sp?). That was a long sentence, sorry. Now if she were a person that had some more worldly experiences above winning the Little Miss Sunshine Event then maybe I'd care what she had to say.

  • I agree that beauty pageants are ridiculous. But as long we're having them, I think it's good they're asking semi-substantive questions. It's just too bad she wasn't able to articulate any kind of opinion. By the way, I've known some pretty wicked xylophonists who might not appreciate the subtle disrespect.

P.S. how did I end up an advocate for this beauty pageant contestant?
    mshen
  • And thank you AC Slater! US PEOPLE
  • I assume they ask these girls questions because if they can answer articulately, even creatively, then they get a higher score. I'm sure that when this girl made her 'SouthAfrica/Iraq' non-sequitur, she lost points.
  • a brilliant example of 'outside the box' thinking...
when we destabliize a country such as Iraq, dropping emergency aid packages containing world maps creates a fresh population of children who not only know where the US is, but are in desperate need of refuge from sectarian killing and ethnic cleansing. With a slight adjustment in our immigration laws we could accept these children into our American schools, driving geographic literacy far higher than present levels. So really, this is a solution for not only the map reading skills of US schoolchildren, but for immigration reform and the spread of democracy and freedom worldwide.
No wonder Mario Lopez was baffled - even Screech couldn't have devised something so ingenious....

  • Whoa. Heavy. Ken Lenga for President! or attorney general. or something...

  • A.C. Slater (Mario Lopez) and I share the same birthday of October 10th.

It's sad that I know this.

  • Slater should have said to her "What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

  • @jmathew - That is one of my all time favorite lines in all of film. I know it's from Billy Madison and Billy Madison is not Casablanca, but that line and it's delivery are just classic.

  • wait a minute... dont beauty pageant contestants get to prep answers before they go on stage? dont they get a series of questions that they may be asked in order to prepare? can anyone confirm this?
  • Here's the pageant contestant explaining her flubbed answer. The fawning hosts are a little hard to take, but it's an interesting follow-up to the story.

She isn't a pageant kind of person. Really? Well you certainly play the part well.

  • Concerning the above video (USA USA USA)....I must admit, that's a strong recovery in the face of UTTER FAILURE. If I were her, and beauty pageants were my life, I would kill myself IMMEDIATELY. i'd run straight into the audience looking for the nearest sharp object to spear my heart with...... but she handled it quite well.
  • WTF was that?
  • WOW! What the hell was she even trying to say. I guess, being a South African, I'm just not smart enough to understand.
