My old boss is in town with his wife and wants to take myself and some former colleagues out to dinner tonight. I need a recommendation on a place:
Near Union Square (Market and SOMA would be fine, too, but they are staying in Union)
Not terribly pricey, but not divey, either
Any ideas? HELP!

Belden PlaceThere's a cool little side street over near there with a handful of yummy Italian restaurants. The one in the middle is my favorite.

For seafood, try Bar Crudo on Bush at Stockton, next to the Tunnel Top. Best chowder ever.

Kuleto'sKinda old school, but I love the drinks (oh, and the food ain't so bad either!) The seafood is generally great. A bit pricey by some standards, but just a lil'.
It's where I take my mother-in-law when she visits :)-

If price is not an issue, I recommend Michael Mina. Hands down the best restaurant in the city.

A far less-pricey but excellent Cal-French restaurant is Myth:
