Mattel Co.'s third toy recall in little more than a month may be more of a blessing than a curse, analysts say, as the company appears to have done the right thing by weeding out even the smallest products that are tainted with lead-based paints -- and is doing it in time to recover for the Christmas season. The interesting thing here is that it's more strategically important here to have the recall now rather than later because it's way before Christmas season, and consumers' memories are short-lived and fade anyway. But what if we were on the brink of Christmas season? What would they do then? Can someone do a cost-effective analysis and figure out if the number of lawsuits they'd receive outweighs the number of Tickle Me Elmos or what not they'd sell during a season. Great.
