High street shops are falling over themselves to stock organic cotton clothes, from M&S and Topshop to Dorothy Perkins and Primark.

But why exactly is organic cotton so important? We caught up with shoppers, campaigners and fashion legend Katharine Hamnett to find out.

  • Cotton is everywhere here in Arkansas. There are planes and helicopters spraying all sorts of chemicals all the time. In the fall they spray a defoliant which makes a lot of people sick (especially kids). if you've never seen a cotton field just watch the first shot of my video on here. Imagine big fields like that all aorund your house, and imagine what just a light breeze can bring blowing in your windows. YEs, buy organic if you can.
  • I really like the idea of new consumer tv. It's a great idea to use the same method counter to the mainstream tv that only makes conumption more prevasive

  • Important subject! I thought the designers interview was too quiet, maybe add subtitles or increase the volume.
  • Thanks for talking about organic cotton. I sell advertising products and try to push the sell of imprinted t-shirts made with organic cotton. It's still a little bit more expensive than a regular t-shirt, but the companies that use them receive positive feedbacks for going green.

  • Powerful! I want people to wake up to the fact that we are all one. What hurts one of us, hurts all of us.

I love the juxtaposition of the fancy shops and the people spraying the pesticides and suffering from pesticide poisoning.

    Beautifully done.

  • There is another side to the organic debate. Organic farms can surprisingly be more damaging to the environment. Since organic plants have no added pesticides, a much larger amount must be grown, which means more of the surrounding environment must be cut down and used for farming.

Non-organic food takes up a lot less space which leaves more room for the environment. Plus (cotton not included) organic food contains more bacteria which is harmful to anyone eating it.
