Casa del Migrante is a shelter located in Tijuana, Mexico. The organization provides temporary lodging and other services to migrant workers who are stranded in Tijuana while attempting to cross the U.S Mexico border without documents. Many of these migrants come from other parts of Mexico and numerous Latin American countries. In this pod, Matilde, a social worker of Casa del Migrante in harrowing detail explains why migrant workers leave their families behind and attempt the dangerous journey across the border, and her day to day experiences of working at the organization.

  • I liked it, the story is very intriguing. I would have liked to hear from some of the migrants and also have a better understanding of how formidable the border crossing is. Keep up the great work and add to this Doc.

  • Very nice work. I'm amazed to find such a service in Tijuana...if only the US was more cooperative. But NOOOOO lets build a wall....make that two walls...with lasers in the middle!

    The only thing that bugs me is that subtitle which jumps to the top of the frame.
    Although an immigrants voice would be great to include, they might not want to be on TV :)

    I have been involved in covering immigration issues in the UK for nearly two years now, the problem here in the UK is not so much the borders, but more the companies that run the IRCs (Immigration Removal Centers), private companies like Kalyx, Serco, and the larger more hidden senior company Sodexho.

    Are you planning to cover the No Borders camp on the Mexican Border this September? That would be good to cover. Camps are planned on the same weekend across the world, including London, UK and other parts of Europe, as well as Mexico.

  • Excellent story! Ideas expressed by Casa Del Migrante, that the rights of all migrants are respected are the opposite to US officials from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
