Critical Mass is a movement seeking road rights for cyclist. It pushes its agenda by promoting rides, on the last Friday of the month, through out the cities of the world. The participants in Atlanta take us to this party like ride.

  • This is a great movement, one time I was on Venice beach and a very old crazy man kept screaming "you young people really have something going on with that Critical Mass thing!" it was amazing.

    I would some music to the piece, but other than that this was a great piece.

    I also read about how a man got arrested for smashing someone's window with his bike...that's taking it too far, but I do love this practice.

  • I live in NYC, Union Square and look forward to critical mass every year. I must admit, I have never joined but my feelings go both ways on the subject. Cops are definitely too harsh in a show of power, and the cyclists definitely put themselves and others at danger. They are getting braver every year. Gotta admire them.

  • Maybe some background noise from the ride during the written statements, would make the silence less distracting. Or how about a narrator reading the statements? Or music? Anyway, nice informative POD, thanks.

    I was startled by the new law in nyc.

    Fellow atl critical massers: Sometimes I think the mass could use a re-kindling of shared philosophy. I have seen more individuals taunting vehicles than I used to at the rides. I know the empowering feeling of riding our bikes on the streets, and the empowering feeling of riding them together as a mass, but I think it is important to remember that as we exercise our rights we must be courteous to the drivers and vehicles around us. We congregate on public streets, we have to recognize that these streets are everyone's domain.

    Let's be seen, but positively. Let's be an inconvenience, but lets not be assholes.
