G8 Protest, Rostock, Germany

On Saturday 2 June, 2007, two huge protests marched in Rostock Germany to show public opposition to the G8 leaders arriving in Heiligendamm for the annual G8 summit, 6 to 8 June.

Combined, the two protests joined 80,000 people. But the protest came into trouble as police attacked the demonstration at Rostock Harbour.

  • Wow! Some intensive footage! I don't necessary agree with the idea of fight the police because that's a gross oversimplification of the issue but this pod is an interesting bit of news and a socio-political slice of life.

  • I liked your coverage and the story. I hate doing this but I want to offer you some advice on your editing. *I think you could cut down the length of the story and adjust your sound levels. *With the narrator at the beginning, I would show him onscreen for a couple of seconds to identify himself and then cut to b-roll as he’s describing the activities. I think it would be more powerful if you heard him talking about the activities and we were seeing the images. *You have very powerful images and a great story it just needs to be tweaked a bit. Again, I hate to be critical of anyone’s work but I am just offering some of the ideas that have worked for me.
