In high school, my dad recommended that I read an essay by Charles W. Eliot, entitled "John Gilley: One of the Forgotten Millions." The story chronicles the simple life and quiet world of a Maine farmer and fisherman to represent the multitude of lives that go unnoticed. Eliot suggests that all of us will eventually be lost to the reality of complete oblivion, and in doing so, points out the irony of seeking fame and fortune as a sign of success.
The book grounded me and added perspective to my life. In college, while studying film at Cornell in upstate New York, I sought to recreate Eliots message through a documentary project. I asked Gary Atkins to be my Gilley, and created a short film that was embraced by both the School of Industrial Labor Relations as well as Cornells Office of Human Resources, as an example of the positive relationship students have with staff.
In his forward of Eliots short book, Frank Matter suggests that perhaps Eliot chose Gilley "because they both inhabited the same geographical space, but traveled in totally different cultural worlds." My film is as much an exploration of parallel worlds as it is a portrayal of honorable lives.

Wonderfully slow and well paced, I like the story and theory behind it almost as much as I like the pod!
Good work, artfully done-
