Success in Country Music is very difficult. Being born African American Woman makes it even more difficult.

Meet Miko Marks: The First African American Woman with Success in Country Music.

This pod is about equal opportunity and female success in today America! It is a pod about social profiling and collective stereotyping. It goes to show how the media and music industry can suppress what people should see.

Stereotyping is a method that people use, consciously or subconsciously, as an efficient way of economizing on information costs.

Country Music is a mostly white music breed.

Why so slow? I have a life to live...
-
I didn't like hearing the interview's uh huh's and like rawbird, I think it’s bit slow and too long, I'd cut it by ½... she can sing though.

Ignore what they say! It is the generation of CUT & PASTE! I like it because is NON manipulative and as the title reads it is a SOUND CHECK ON... and this is very what it is. I think it is perfect for TV !because First, it show us a new star in a RAW form in a VERY different way and in a casual setting!!! (something we do not often get to see in America without being manipulated by a producer or narrator!) and Second we get to see a part of San Francisco that most of us are not familiar with for example BASEBALL! and Country MUSIC!) Something that seams distant to California but perhaps normal in other parts of America.
This piece is about culture being made as it goes. And it is yet show in a very different way At less very different to commercial tv venues. Keep it up with your work! GOOD WORK See my pods and GL!-

This is a good pod, but it is too long for Current TV, even if it was picked without getting to the top of the leaderboard it would be trimmed.
I suggest you do it yourself by cutting to about 5 mins, I'll be glad to GL then. Great singer.

The singer needs improvement.

despite my personal sentiments on country music.....this was a very interesting story. I think if you cut about two or three minutes of the excess, you would probably have something ready for tv.
the first thing that comes to mind is the star spangled banner....that shouldn't go for any longer than 10 seconds or so.
It also could be better for me if you cut about a minute and a half of Miko's monolog. Some of what she said was quite captivating...then some of it just lost my attention.
the hallway footage toward the end is too dark...couldn't tell if it was Miko? ..nothing that a filter shouldn't be able to fix.
the overall audio needs to be balanced...not to over-criticize...I have my own issues balancing sound on all my vids....I'm happy to give you more detailed feedback......only if you want it....my harsh style is usually not taken very kindly in this community.
i gave you a very reluctant GL in hopes that you plan to re-edit this and submit a new version...because this is a cool story I can see current airing.....
thx for the feedback on "future leaders of the world".....I was just trying to make a satirical statement on vlog communities' reactions to important technical news stories...
....I think the pod make more contextual sense having first seen the preceding pod: "luck, perseverance, or prayer"...mentioned in the description
thanks again, and keep up the good work. -
also....I love the use of spanish subtitles....very cool and current...i think I'm going to start doing that on my own pods too....if you don't mind me being a poser???
-
nottothewall re: do I have copyrights to use.....
-what are copyrights???
.....I did not mean to distort story out of context...just an attempt to poke fun at vloggers who get a ton of attention for utter ridiculousness.
I agree with you 100% that "it is what it is"
interesting that you mentioned further investigation of that topic....I had never given it any serious thought....I usually try to cover very serious stories.....but now I'm considering further exploring this phenomenon....thank you for provoking new thoughts....
I'm glad to hear you are open to further criticism...
i am pretty tired tonight, but promise to watch your pod a couple of times tomorrow and get back with more thorough feedback.
stay in touch. -
Pues, que tema mas interesante! Luz Veeerrrrrrrde!!! :)

Getting an intro to an artist - I never knew about - like Miko Marks is totally in spirit of Current and why this medium is going to help so many find audiences around the world, without waiting around for Entertainment Tonight to ring up - way to go on this piece!

I like the pod, but the editing needs some work. I'd like to hear more clearly the interview . I would cut the cheesy transitions... (+ yellow and pink)

Please let me know what you think about my pod "Keep Your Butts off the Beach" about the International Coastal Cleanup Day:

Thanks for your comments. I'd liked to find another music, but it takes a long time to find the right one. I probably don't know how to go through the library efficiently....
Yeah, I don't like the pictures and albums displayed on a pink background...-

I am also against the Wall! Right on! I live in the RGV..right on the border of the proposed wall.. We dont want it either!I had no idea there was a Black Country Singer!!Ive only heard of Cowboy Troy...but rarely...probably because it is a Genre I dont follow..but its nice to know...just goes to show how the MEdia and Music Industry can really suppress what they want when they feel like it...! Uhhhg! I will look forward to seeing it on My Tv. Channel!!

Great story. I'd cut this piece down a bit, and edit it with a little faster pacing and more spots with just background music without interviews or the main woman singing..maybe just the sounds or traffic, or people. There is a lot of information all at once and your message is getting a bit lost.
Good luck!-

I do not believe you should do what Crank mentions. You should fix the interview sund a little and cut some of the comments they will be ready for current. GL

This is nice but I will like to see it slow down a little

interesting pod - thanks for uploading! Works for me for the most part except those pointless transitions pieces at the end when she's singing - transitions should move us forward, not to the same place. The last hallway scene could be brightened.
other than that I like this story. Country music gets much maligned sometimes rather needlessly. Some ill-informed people tend to think country and western is strictly a white (redneck) affair but if they go to to some of the country western bars such as in Austin, Texas they would see things differently. It's good to challenge stereotypes which this pod does.
Also, I like the shot of her kicking at the camera. good shot!-

Great subject. And good shots. 2 things you might consider.
1. Bring up the audio on her interviews
2. Lose the starwipe at the end.
Thanks for the upload.
Green Light -
Good Character. Green light.
I was unclear as to whether she was going to sing the national anthem to the Giants game. That seemed to be the logical crescendo to the piece. I waited for this to happen and it never did.
Wanted piece to start with shots of typical white country music fans and musicians. Also, wanted to know if she's experienced negative remarks or racism, as I imagine would be inevitable.
Audio needs to be reworked.
Keep up the good work. Look forward to your next pod. -
nice, but i agree it needs a little more context to show how white and male dominated the genre is. audio for the interviews was a little noisy, too, but not enough to ruin the piece. green light.
-
Really liked the story- very relevant. Would have liked to be SHOWN some of the points you made in the desrcription. All in all - Greenlight!
