Director/Cameraman/Editor Richard Fendelman produced this segment.
Over sixty international journalists, artists, musicians and media professionals recently convened for the Images & Voices of Hope 2006 World Summit at the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual Organization Peace Village Learning and Retreat Center. The Summit focused on how to creatively transform the "public space" through positive messages in the media.
Images and Voices of Hope is an international conversation about the impact of images and stories on people, families, communities, cultures and the world. Our purpose is to strengthen the role of media as agents of world benefit, expanding awareness of the choices those in media make that raise public trust, generate constructive meaning, and amplify human hope, thus enhancing humanity's capacity for life-promoting action.
Begun in 1999 with a conversation among 200 media professionals in New York City, Images & Voices of Hope has grown to include conversations among some of the world's finest journalists, artists, musicians, activists and media professionals on all five continents.

  • It's too bad that all we get from these attendees are vague, hazy, sketchy, comments. Didn't anyone of these educated people have a specific idea to express?! For instance: I would have like to have heard about the monopoly five companies now have over all media and how this corporate filter is skewing our information. How do we break up theses monopolies and get our free press back? Maybe these people in looking to find or keep a job kept their comments fuzzy and vague.
  • i think that it is important to see that there is a dialogue like this out there between people in the media that is effecting positive ideas, energy and change and that it is not just business as usual
  • Very cool topic for a pod. Excellent effects too with the transitions between footage.

  • O.K. I have a hard time knowing how to vote here, it comes off as a journalistic piece but is incredibly slanted in its subjects direction. One question, were there any men there other than the pianist and the camera man. I like the idea of Hope, but is it a journalists job to give it? I got an overwhelming feeling this is what happens when journalists have lost the ability to tell "their" story, simply because things are monopolized and "The News" isn't run by journalists any longer. Was it ever?
  • Beautiful job with production and photography! Excellent meaningful, powerful concept. Wonderful to see people getting involved to make a difference. Hope more people join in.
  • The issues raised here need to be up on television.
  • You can't live without media. I just wish people would listen and take in both sides of the story, no matter what the story may be. Look at the Duke Lacrosse team and what they went through. You can't lie and be honest at the same time. Green Light for me.
