Quynn stumbled onto this very old bobcat and, quite possibly, his last swim. Video was shot at the Hoh river on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state.

  • Highlights a part of life we don't like to think about. Our life should be our own to do with as we please.

  • its not quick enough. i really like the film and feel that the producer is lucky to see such activity from a bobcat. however, the speaker makes it seem slow no offense.

  • Great story - sad and moving. How incredibly fortunate you were to catch this!

This kind of pod is the type I like to hold up to those who go on about vid/audio quality yadda yadda - things happen that we aren't always prepared for and we try to capture them as best as we can. It's the content that matters. Plus you took this simple footage of an old bobcat trying to swim across a river and turned into a very interesting and compelling story. Good work!

I also like that the fate of the bobcat remains a mystery. It's somehow fitting
  • I very touching and beatiful story. A rare footage.
I would have definitely intercut the the visuals with
several shots of you shoouting the camera. Your
reactions, lifting the head off the viewfinder and just observing the action. Does not matter that its a set up afterwards, Great story, made me sad though.
  • I'm laughing as i write this. for post #11, never in a million years would i go in later to add footage of me pretending to watch a bobcat who had just possibly died swimming across an icy river. I can only imagine what facial expressions I might create...
this was a moment in time. I can hardly believe I had my camera with me, and thank goodness the rock was there to steady it (sort of).
I appreciate those of you who see the beauty of this simple story I decided to share.
  • an unusual piece, more so because of the narrative being so evocative of a spiritual connection between human and animal. while this may not make it to the airwaves because of video quality, you are a soulful storyteller. you have this visitor's GL. andy
ps. maybe it's just me, but the cat made it - he was going downstream and then moved a bit to his right and then upstream to the bank.
  • yes, he might have made it to the far bank, but i know for sure that while he might not have died this time, he was in his last hours/days. my main feeling was that he attempted the swim full well knowing/hoping that he wouldn't make it. it is tough being so old and in so much pain. at some point, one just wants to be released back to the "river"...
  • it's rare that humans get a glimpse at nature like that. you're very lucky. I hope this video clip can touch someone and help them develop an appreciation of our natural world.
