Solar Oven Revolution!

vobbie
Did you ever think that the solution to the world's energy problems is right under our nose? Meet Louise Meyer a global crusader for the benefits of cooking with the sun. Louise promotes a simple cooking aparatus called the HOTPOT that uses only the sun as fuel.

    • Congrats on your way to TV. Very well put together. I wonder how long it takes to cook something with a solar oven... This kind of oven should be a big relieve for the women and children who have to walk miles to get wood.

Please let me know what you think about my pod "Keep Your Butts off the Beach" :link

    • Solar cookers are great! I taught elementary school kids how to construct them out of cardboard boxes, aluminum foil, heat-resistant plastic wrap, and glue. Total cost of one box was... free! Everything was either scrap or surplus school supplies. The children and teachers were amazed at the power of simple sunlight.

    • Powerful and practical. Love and blessings to this project! Women shouldn't have to die of indoor air polution in order to feed their families. This is an elegant solution.

    • This is a prime example of how efficient solar power (not just photo-voltaic) can be and how its use can immediately impact our planet.

    • Solar cooking is important in terms of poverty, nutrition, safety, women's time, health, and the environment. It needs to become a real option, especially for poor people in developing countries. I use a SHE-HotPot myself and have found it to be the best solar cooker I have tried, especially because with it I can cook five liters of food in a few hours. I hope that Solar Household Energy's entrepreneur-focused business model will make their HotPot available to help millions of families, and that this video will help spread the word.

    • Solar ovens are very necessary tools, particularly for populations in areas without electricity. In fact, such technology would be useful practiacally anywhere.

    • Awesome pod! I didn't know anything about solar cooking and this was extremely educational. I think that if solar cooking became as popular as outdoor barbeque in the States that we could definately have an impact on the way others think and use fuel. Green Light & Kudos!

    • Vahid,

i liked it very much. i love the way the photos slowly pan in or out . beautifully shot and subtle music.

i would have liked some more info/stats at the very beginning to define the problem a little more though.

great job. I think that you should do a short film on HIV/AIDS in Washington, DC. let me know if this interests you.

    • Solar cooking will have the highest impact on fragile environments like the Sahel in Africa but will also positively impact on family health, child nutrition and many other aspects of rural and urban households in Africa.

      The good:
      1. Great subject matter; super-interesting topic.
      2. Well-edited video and interview.
      The not as good:
      1. Too many still pics, and for long stretches at a time. I timed it -- 1minute, 26 seconds of still pics. Is it a slideshow or a video?
      2. One interviewee, who also doubles up as the narrator. I thought there should be a few more people interviewed on the subject, and maybe a separate narrator.
      3. The punctuation on the graphics and subtitles was poor. Who cares, right? It makes it easier to read when there's a comma or two in the right locations.

    • Definite GL. Finally, some solutions for people and the planet. Interesting and important story. Well produced and edited with an encouraging tempo. More people should know about this topic and get involved for positive change. I like the varied shots and edits and the way the visuals tell the story, complementing the clear and concise audio. I'm glad I saw this. Now I want a solar cooker, too!

    • Vobbie.... I really enjoyed this. I didn't know you could get such solar cooking tools for cheap. Your project is quite insirational; whatever I can do to get your content on the air, let me know... I hope it motivates people. Excellent videography. Dope stuff. A Greenlight and 25 points for you! Please, take just a moment to return your review on my own CANCEPTUAL video, Vobbie. I would personally love your consent for TV. I could really use your expertise and approval.

I hope you can be fair and take the time to review mine also.

    • Really brilliant. Wouldn't believe it but saw some solar cooking on "It's not easy gowing green" series on UK TV.
But they basically recycled materials like satellite TV dishes and painted them black with a kettle on top.
Even worked, though they had to wait some hours for having a cup of tea.

Isn't there any possibilities to recycle materials in the third world for solar cooking, too?

    • Nice story, unique. I like the pod, and Greenlight it, but I think the photos section in the beginning goes on a little too long (even though it's paced nicely with the music, which I also like)... GL for story as always though...
