Okay I gave you GL because you do have a story here. A couple of suggestions I have would be to reedit it. This piece needs a lot more B-roll because seven minutes of a talking head just starts to drag on. The B-roll will also help get rid of the interview with the guy holding a mic. Hide that mic when possible. Also I would try to find a different back ground. The white spot on the wall grabs my eyes attention and the window is just ugly. This also could be cut down some. With a reedit you maybe able to hold on to peoples attention a bit longer because people like me with the ADHD might have a hard time watching this piece if you keep it the way it is. Just my 2 cents!

I also agree with tharvey, and I thought the music track was a little loud and distracting at times and should be turned down just a little.

I like your message. I agree with others that you need more b-roll, but I think the speaker in the movie does a good job of addressing the issues. Keep up the good work. GL.

i HATE butts on the beach! gl

Since you did not have a lot of video, I liked the movement that you put on the photos. Good message. Perhaps cut it down a bit. Nice job.
-
You know you need cutaways, but they don't just have to be of the clean-up. When the interviewee is talking about ciagrette butts, you could use cutaways of cigarettes, smokers, close-ups of used butts or the thin rope of smoke that snakes upward from a lit cigarette. Smoke always looks attractive on camera when properly lit.
I like the message, and the interview has a great supply of information. You know what needs improvement because you mentioned it yourself, so good luck working on it and I look forward to watching the pod's progress. -
Wow Chad, Im so proud of you! Your message is great!!! Keep up the good work. Your Sister

would have been better to use a lavaliere (sp?) mic so I was more focused on the speaker..maybe there is a way to crop in on the speaker's face? Nice info, good pacing..would love to see a little more b roll with the speaker or some different angles..
Nice job!

Really informative, interesting, and compassionate mini. Of course it would be more interesting cut with more b-roll, but you already know that. Thanks for putting this out there.

Great job, I agree with crank design more b roll perhaps actual footage instead of stills, but not bad at all. Im a film student in Orlando and Ive been wanting to make a pod about the fact that so many people drive huge s.u.v's when they dont really need to. Its clearly a social statement of grandure and power, so I wanna hit on that, If you wanna help me e- mail me @ scubba38@aol.com

Hi Orange thank you for your comment I like your od but I think is too long because the message gets across very fast. Mening I do not need to see several photographs showing me what the guy just mention to believe you. I think you need more interviews with a counter thesis of what is being say. Your interview sound neds mixing and perhpas a filter. I do not like the music you se because it make the piece slow down more. A good 1 minute 1/2 out will be okay. I will green light a second version. Regarding the comment on my pod can you tell me what you mean by "I would cut the cheesy transitions... what transition please? and what is: "(+ yellow and pink)"???? Thank you

Bravo
I'm a fellow butt picker upper, one time I sliced my finger really nicely pulling a piece of glass out of a natural Hot Spring. I'm part of your army!

Good Message.

G/L very well put together, a bit long but then again if there wasn't so much trash out there you wouldn't have had to tell us so much about it right!!!
P.S. Whats with the bottle thats toss on to the beach at the end on the left hand side of the screen? Did that get picked back up??-

Yeah, I noticed the bottle thrown on the ground at the editing, Applesauce. I'm pretty sure that the bottle was picked up since we had to bring the garbage to the marine center ...good sight ;)

I may not live near a beach, but I hope this pod inspires people to pick up after themselves. Great pod! GL
-
Absolutely! How hard is it to put trash in its container? When you're enjoying the worlds resources leave it the way you found it.

Good Topic. Green Light.
I don't like the music.
There's also a few easy techinal things you can improve on your next shoot. 1) Don't use a handheld mic for the main interview. Either mount a shotgun to your camera, or use the lavalier. 2) When using the lavalier, have them run the mic up their shirt and then clip it on the collar. 3) Shoot more close ups. The image you capture during a close up means 80 percent of the screen should be occupied by the item. 4) Don't zoom. 5) Don't move the camera.
Keep up the Good Work! Look forward to your next pod. -
I LIKED THE INTERVIEW WITH THE GUY IN THE HAT, HE SEEMED LIKE A FUN GUY THAT LIKES TO GET THINGS DONE

Awesome pod and a great message. I really liked the facts on the amount of time it takes for things to decompose and the statistics at the end. I wasn't a fan of the music and it was hard to see the pictures of the affected animals. Green light and good luck!!!

Good story! This is something happening across the country for the enviornment on the coasts and needs more attention.
I wouldn't say "don't zoom," but use it sparingly as a visual tool for an impression to emphasize the story or shot. The hand-held mic really creates an impression of being contrived and not so professional. Pay attention to your aspect ratio when you encode... it turned out a bit "squeezed." The redundant music does get old, so mix it up and use it for emphasis instead of filler.
Take this with a grain of salt.... the story is great. THANKS-

If the picture looks squeezed, it's because my camcorder records in 16:9. When I uploaded the video becomes 4:3, I don't know how to fix the problem.

get real and make the beaches smoke free se! the real problem is consumerism and the disposable "super-size-me" mentality of the rich nations ie america in particular and the emerging/poorer economies......... ...throwing their pot noodles into to sea (via the general refuse collections and carelessness)
make manufacturers produce biodegradeable products including cigarette butts... ...umm?
that dolphin was really upsetting to see............ se! -
Projects like this should be supported! Thanks for making a pod about them
-
I liked your post and the subject matter is close to me since I live in FL and surf their beaches. The only thing I didn't like is at the end it was really hard to pay attention to what the guy was saying and read the stats you were showing.
-
What's with all the critiquing of the film? The message was great and important. I looked because cigarette butts on our beaches is one of my major pet peeves. It makes me so angry that lazy people use the sand as a giant ashtray. I bet everyone of those lazy b******* also has a bottle or can with them and could put every butt in there and dispose of it properly on their way out. Our tourism counsels spent a lot of $$ to get people to the beaches, maybe they should include a few of the $$$ to educate them on how not be such uncaring slobs.
