Jason West, known for conducting same sex marriages in the village of New Paltz, NY, was voted out of office this month.

never knew the backstory of this. Interesting. The story would make for an interesting movie.
2004 was an interesting year that ended disappointly with Bush re-elected, the Iraq War still with no end in sight, and the tsunamis.
Putting on my patented tinfoil conspiracy hat, at that time particularly up to and following the election I felt that certain sinsister powers-that-be(-behind-the-curtain) pushed for the same-sex unions in order to galvanize the religious right in the upcoming election.
It is unforunate that homophobia did play a larger part than it should have in the 2004 election because some people were more concerned about two guys/girls kissing than the clusterf*ck that was going on in Iraq.-

Glad to see that gay rights didn't disappear as a flash in the media's pan. This story features well balanced reporting, filming, and production. Thumbs up all around. Hope to see more like it.

great job ! It was good to see the explanations behind West not being re-elected too. New Paltz looks much more progressive than what we have down here in the South.
