  • Thank you for sharing the awesome interview as well as the beautiful footage. Gernot has an obvious connection to the land that has been lost by most in our modern world and this clearly comes out in the clips you selected.

I sincerely hope that you continue with the full documentary as you've got all the potential pieces to make a real great film. As people continue to march down a path that destroys the very fabric we rely on for our survival and our entire way of life it is ever more important to step back and listen to folks such as Gernot.... • A worthy topic. Experiencing nature and drawing insight from it. Bravo!

On a filmmaking level, it could be cut by a third. More of the interview tracks could be played over the visuals. You could probably cut the interviewer asking the initial question, or perhaps reduce it. The long tracking shots often make their "point" long before you move on to the next shot.

Also be aware of an editing principle called crossing the "stage line." When there are two primary characters on screen, there is an imaginary line between them. In conventional editing, the point of view is not supposed to jump from one side of this imaginary line to the other. If it does the edit is jarring and calls attention to itself. Another editing suggestion is to use more close-ups of your interview subject and put his name on the screen as a subtitle. Perhaps some background one who this gentleman is, too.

And while I'm thinking of such things, you might want to briefly refer to the viewer to an on-screen map, establishing where the film's location is.

The music is good and is used sparingly.

    A soulful piece!
