  • I loved this! A lot of pods that I watch get pretty boring pretty fast but this kept me interested and it was paced perfectly. I personally would have liked to see more wide shots to get a clearer perspective of the whole store/workshop. Overall, very well done!

    GL/good luck!
  • Excellent piece. Technicaly nicely done GL.
However I would definitely improve naration.
Stay awy if you can from frazes Like "WE did this
or ". We took a piece of sandpaper" or "Basiclaly" "almost every building was on the boots"
Instead I would use The boots were illustrated with the images of the buildings" " Climate control is very important in manufactur of..."Etc.
IYou have beautiful openning -logo. I would have take away My name is. and I would have used it as a punctuation mark at the end of the film
ending with "and my name is Andre" There is so many ways to do stuff. Beauty of the filmaking. But I loved it.

  • One more thing.
In openning sequence I would use bunch of cataways of close up of peoples shoes walking
    on the street.

This is not a comment. need help how do I send you a message t5hat I receive from you (e-mail way? sorry duh.) me old me dumb. :)

  • Good stuff DavidGeorge. GL. This is what Current TV is all about, in my humble opinion. A short non-fiction piece about a unique subject happening right under our noses. Old school craftsmanship in the modern western city of LA. Great subject, tight story.

One suggestion: shorten your credit to one board. ie. Directed/Edited/Scored by David George. Perhaps at the end of the piece.

    Peace, Morgan

  • Nice pod, great production value. I would like to have seen a little more on the customers, perhaps their reaction to picking up a pair. Good subject.

  • GL... quite nice informative and engaging... My father used to own a shoe factory... I designed some of the shoes that I wanted and used to go to every "step" to get them done in the way I wanted... great to remember this things...

  • Never knew shoes could be so interesting! Nice spotlight on this. I was particularly interested about the boots made to look old. Nice way of showcasing his various shoes at the end - good way to close the pod! GL!

  • interesting and informative. I personally am not into shoes, but my wife sure enjoyed the vid. I am sure many ladies and those that feel like one appreciated this very informative shoe pod. GL from me.

  • Great work. I really enjoyed watching all of the different processes that go into making the shoes. You had great up close foootage of shoes, leathers and other materials. The interview was also really solid and your crossfades in between takes were extremely subtle. One minor thing-- I would have liked to see some interviews or pictures of customers (ie: pics of some of the royalty or celebrities who frequent the shop).
But great work and GL from me.
    Hopemn
  • yey! i just dug this piece big time! completely original and totally unique subject matter. great sound bytes and unusual point of view. i don't know anyone that is a shoe maker, nor have i had a pair of custom made shoes made before. it's like i have never been introduced to it, and i am sure that will be the same for many viewers. nice tunes and great edits. gl. you go boy!

  • Hi David,

Just found another flaw on Current TV site. If you just want to leave a message for another member there appears to be no way to do it. CBC Exposure allows for comments to be left on the profile as well.

I wanted to thank you for the input and the GL on Unsung Heroes. It will take me a bit of time to absorb. I don't want to clutter your thread here so I'd ask you to drop me your email if you don't mind at dave@avav.ca
I checked out your myspace...wow...you are full of talent. The civil war production looks interesting and well put together. Only thing I noticed was on the opening where the SGT is speaking, you appear to cross the line as he is facing right on the ECU but slightly left on the medium shot.
    Cheers,
    Dave aka knightshot

If you get a chance, please check out our Pod on Lobster fishing off the coast of Maine. Thanks!

P.S. I don't mind the credits, especially when they fit the look of the piece. You should be proud of the good work you do.

  • This pod did not really do it for me, but there could be a place for this video out there. An informative story, but just a little dry for me. The only thing that I would recommend is when you do interviews don’t have the person pressed up all the way against the left side of the frame looking out to the right. It just looks awkward. Now I would say you David need to learn to take constructive criticism. There was nothing "hostile" in Smorriesy's reply to you.

And yes there is something wrong with you and a few other people on Current.tv who have 619 and more green lights and then post a "LOOK AT ME" in the comments. All you people who just go around a green light crap are just out to green light people hoping that they will green light you back to push your own POD to the top. So in the end all I can say is maybe people who do this need to spend more time on making good POD’s instead of putting out crappy POD’s hoping someone with return the favor after 619 “I GL you so Look at me comments”.

  • A professionaly way to shot. It's very well done. The subject is original. The most important point is your technically work
    tibzzz2000
  • Well done, however, it is just a little too long. And maybe it's just me but it seems like every other word the guy says is "shoe". It becomes repetitive and drawn out. All it needs is a little editting.

  • I really enjoyed this one.David you earned a greenlight.

  • Hi David,

I am so torn on what to do with my peace pod. The people I shot all love it just the way it is, and then I think of your really sound advice. There's a part of me that wants to not change it because ultimately i like it.
Anyway, thanks for your help. And, looking forward to a new pod by you. If you get a chance, I have a new XM commercial that is very "me". I'd link it but then that's just shameless self-promotion? :)

  • Interesting stuff, great pod.
  • A fascinating profile of a unique business. I love the editing (the B-roll is beautiful), and the music fits perfectly. In less than 6 minutes, I got a really good feel for the place, and that's what characterizes a great pod.

    Greenlight, for sure!

  • shoes - mainly wear sandles or go barefoot myself but I won't let my own footwear prejudice stand in the way of voting for an interesting vid.
