"Poverty, Power & Persuasion: 2007 Elections in the Philippines", is a short film examining the current socio-economic situation in the Philippines within the context of the 2007 mid-term elections. Across the Philippine archipelago millions of voters cast ballots for the 2007 mid-term elections amidst a wave of political violence, including multiple assassinations and calculated fire-bombings of polling stations.
According to the Philippine National Police approximately 130 people lost their lives, in the context of a national vote widely viewed as a test to the political legitimacy of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, an important U.S. ally in the South Pacific. Final results for the 2007 Philippine elections remain undetermined, as high-pressure controversies, including allegations of state-sanctioned electoral fraud, mount political pressure on the fragile Arroyo government.
Produced by Montreal based journalist Stefan Christoff and KODAO Productions in Manila.

Very well made, I had no idea that this was going on there. Thanks for bringing this to Current.
I would have liked a little bit more interviews with locals and a little less voice over, but you did an amazing job!
Green light!-

Nice work here, hope it doesn't get lost in the shuffle. The voice-over work was clear, and the narrator had a good voice for it. I agree with an earlier post that hopes the image quality will improve when greenlit. I noticed the soldiers carrying M-16s. Hmmm... wonder where they got those?
If you get a chance, please check out our uploads which were shot off the coast of Maine. Thanks! -
i am giving you a very reluctant greenlight because I think this is a great story.
you have about 2 minutes of good stuff in there somewhere.
for starters, you can loose most of the narration / introduction of the interviewees...redundant and unnecessary
example: the husband and wife intro at beginning...just her comments alone are sufficient.
keep your narration brief and simple...less is more....you need to redo it all anyway....it sounds like you're reading a script....totally un-natural cadence.
the countdown / film title at beginning...all unnecessary
and loose all the credits at the end...current isn't the place to promote yourself or your work....for me, it made the whole piece feel less sincere....
are you still in the south pacific?? if so I encourage you to cover more stories along these lines.
either way, keep shooting stuff...clearly you have talent. -
Great story. I was totally unaware of this kind of things in Philippines. This has to go on air.
If you have a chance please take a look at my pods.

Well told story - the video looks a bit rough but I'm guessing that's more to do with the upload process than the source video. My pods look worse after compression.
Shocking about the killings - hope this gets aired.-

Massive electoral fraud, widespread poverty and political unrest are sadly the reality in my country, the Philippines. It's sad how the nation's poor (who make up the majority of the Philippine population) are often the "target market" of officials up for election, but once they are in office, they totally forget about them and put their own personal agendas first. It's sad how many Filipinos are now so jaded and have gotten so used to this terrible situation, that they feel helpless and hopeless.
Great upload! This should be shown on TV. -
Your names: Stefan Cristoff happen to be 2 of the names I used for characters. Weird. But...they are French versions of my bro's names.
I wonder; since you're a journalist, and you know quite a bit about the Islamic culture if you'd be interested in informing me about the marriage culture for a written
work I want to research? I need to finish this project which is sketched and waiting for indepth insight into the Islamic marriage culture. If you are interested email me: kristy@hesketh.us If not...keep up the truth in journalism. -
