More than 20 thousand lost boys of Sudan fled civil war in the 1980's after government troops burned thier villages and killed many of thier family members. They faced countless challenges, walking thousands of miles across Africa and living in refugee camps for nearly a decade with little food.
After years in a refugee camp in Kenya, The U.N. and the international rescue committee resettled 3, 800 lost boys in the United States in 2001. An estimated 500 lost boys live in Phoenix, AZ.

Jany Deng tells his story to producers Paula Moore, Tray Goodman and Joe Reynolds.

  • This was well made and a good follow up to the story of the lost boys. Thank you for binging this. I would have liked to hear from more than one of the lost boys though, it would make the piece more dynamic and dialogic. I hope to see more of this type of thing though!

    Thanks for uploading

  • This is very touching and I think we need to let others know that people around the world have to go through so much to have freedom and I pray for these men. God Bless Those who took the time to think about others instead of themselves.
  • Great - puts a human face on a tragic situation and someone who overcome great obstacles. Loved it.

  • Excellent story! Very moving! What a contrast in light of the immigration mess this country is so imbroiled in at the moment. I'm very sad that this young man had to go through some of the trials that he has, but it is refreshing to see what someone can do when he comes to this country legally. Very inspiring!
  • A story that needs to be told and listened to.
  • Green Light Displacement is a big problem in the world! UN can just do enought with such a complex problem!

  • I am sure that your life changed when you produced this documentary . I was a volunteer at the Lost Boys Center prior to moving to the East Caost and this group of young men are the most resilient people I have ever met, It is amazing how they can smile and look at the positives in life after everythnig they have been through, Their story needs to be told. Jany is a good friend of mine, he is a wonderful guy and his smile and laugh make me realize that life is an incredible journey. Well done, thank you for your work!
  • This is great! Would love to see this on current. Not enough info out there on this subject.

  • Jany,

I am so proud of you. Even though I no longer work at the AZ Lost Boys Center, I think of you all the time and tell people of the struggles and torment you went through as a child but through it all you became a remarkable young man. Jany, you will always have a special place in my heart filled with so much love for you. Never forget, God is always with you on this journey you are taking through this life.---Marsha

  • A great story that puts a real face and a real voice to this grave situation in the Sudan that we hear about in the news. I wish the mainstream media would present more of these in-depth stories - that will never happen - but Current TV will.
  • Love the artistic way the message is portrayed.
