Thousands descended on Jena, Louisiana today to protest the case against 6 black high school students who were charged with attempted murder after a school yard fight. Many people feel that the charges against the boys were racially motivated, and that the treatment the white students (and in one case, adults) involved in the various events prior to "the fight" received, from the legal as well as the school system, was much less harsh. The effect of today's rallies remain to be seen - it could sway the prosecutor to drop the charges, though he seems unlikely to do so, or it could make an already tense situation even more so when the town is left to itself again in the coming days.CNN has live video of the scene where you can see tons of people milling around. They also have a fairly awkward interview with one of the mom's, her charged son standing beside her unable (legally) to say a word the whole time.

The TreeIt should be noted that as with all divisive issues, polarization is not strictly based on pure black-white dichotomy, as this tribute song to the Jena Six attests.

David Bowie Contributes $10,000 to Jena 6 Legal Defense FundFrom Bowie: "There is clearly a separate and unequal judicial process going on in the town of Jena. A donation to the Jena Six Legal Defence Fund is my small gesture indicating my belief that a wrongful charge and sentence should be prevented."

Obama acting white?Apparently Jesse Jackson thinks so. Why? Obama's reaction to the Jena Six controversy. Isn't Obama half white? So wouldn't that be okay to act white? How does one act white anyways? Politically I think it would be a hard situation to be in, to not alienate your voters. He (Obama) would be a P*** though if he did feel strongly one way or the other but did not say anything. Ahh such is politics.
