Want to cure the "7-year-itch" and lower the divorce rate all at once? Put a 7 year expiration date on marriages, and allow a couple to extend or dissolve their union at the 7 year mark! So proposes (har har) a German politician, dubbed the country's most glamorous for her red hair and motorcycle riding rebelliousness.
Not sure what to do about the people who want out before 7 years are up - maybe when you apply for your marriage license, it could be a variable time choice! You could make the longer options cheaper, if you wanted to incentivize lasting bonds.
I'm hoping that I'll escape this predicament, given that my now hubby and I were dating for 2 weeks shy of 9 years before tying the knot. Now that I think about it...I was kind of getting sick of him 2 years ago... haha!
