Two student scientists set out to find out why shark populations are declining. They interview experts and learn that the demand for shark fin soup has increased dramatically in recent history and that all shark species are now targets of the fin trade. Over the course of the movie, the protagonists travel to Chinatown in San Francisco, collect shark fins, and carry out an experiment using forensic molecular biology to identify the fins. Along the way, they eat celery, drive a van, and meet a special someone who will change their lives forever.

  • This is so sad, I am not necessarily against eating meat, but when people aren't eating the whole animal it is so upsetting, pointless and wasteful.

This was well made and I like how you made it part fictitious mystery-mission type thing and part traditional documentary--very strange.

It was a little too long, but overall good job.

  • No take out anoying kids trying to make felm noir with a video camera. Get to the point and address the real issue fast and effective. Get some people from China Town they are around!

  • I would really like to green light this because it is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. However your approach on this is inappropriate! You try to be silly, and you choice of music is more like an action flick. At times you seem to be having to much fun reporting on something so tragic. Shorten this down a lot, and remove the humor bits. They are ment for entertainment, not for environment awareness. You have enough strong content in your pod to get the message across. Use it wisely and you will have an excellant pod. Goodluck . I will check back at a later date to green light once this is more serious.

  • I would like to apologize to you for the red light. I never red light anyone. And I did not give you this one. I let my son who is 10, and very much a shark fanatic watch your pod. He missunderstood me when I said that I didn't feel this pod was ready, and he accidentally clicked the red light. Again I am sorry if this has effected your score in any way.

  • Honestly, I didn't even watch the whole thing. It was too long and the college kids didn't seem to be taking this topic seriously. A bit too rock-'n-roll-bad-boy for me and not enough focus on the subject. Shark finning is heartbreaking to me, and it's an issue that deserves, and needs, to be addressed in a serious manner. Take out the Chinatown detective subplot and the partying potheads and show the world more footage of sharks being dismembered if you really want to get through to people. I appreciate your efforts but this needs work. Not a RL but not a GL either.

  • what is the point of dna'ing the fins... ...shouldn't you be trying to educate people on what they eat...... .....i mean for goodness sake how much meat is there on an average shark fin to really make it necessary to extinct another set of genus' also the u s of a should ban the importation of shark's fins maybe to halt the decline of the species. se!
