@sloan i see where you're coming from, however, i'd argue that hip hop has evolved light years beyond its roots in the boogie down bronx, people rigging up power poles to power mics and turntables in the park. definitely a mode of expression that was spawned from gritty urban realities, but is now so far reaching as a cultural movement, and ubiquitous, that martians could appropriate the art form and still lay claim to it... just as long as the martians where their helmets backwards.
