The dollar is getting crushed. What are the effects on the street? Are Canadians crossing the border to buy fat gold chains?

I don't know about right now, but a couple of years ago, when I lived in upstate New York, I can tell you that you'd see more license plates from Quebec on the Thruway than you would from Vermont and Massachusetts. Cigarettes alone were probably one of the top draws for Canadian shoppers.
The Loonie may be on par with the dollar, but the taxes Canadians pay still will probably make shopping in the U.S. an attractive proposition.-
