  • Wow Christina, just saw this story. I'm from the northeast myself, but I never came across a substantial pro-gun community. Maybe it is that "live free or die" mentality. I found what that guy said, at the gun shop interesting--if you live by the law, you should be able to own what you want. Did you ask them about the people that abuse the privilege? Also, what did you think of the kids at that rifle camp--did you get a chance to talk to any of them?

  • I did talk to them about gun abuse, and their response was, "guns don't kill people, people kill people." They believe that by targeting guns, we aren't addressing the real problem, which is that there are people out there that want to kill other people. From their prospective, a person who wants to kill another person will find a way of doing it, and that guns are just the easiest way to do it.

As for the kids at the camp, they were enthusiastic, every day kids. They enjoyed the sporting aspect of riflery-- the challenge of hitting the mark. The ones who did well were really proud of themselves, and overall, the kids seemed to be having a great time. The counselors were really strict on safety and nonviolence.

I think it basically boils down to a lot of what I experience in New Hampshire. New Hampshire is a pretty idyllic place-- So they look around and say, if we in NH can have guns and not shoot people, why can't others?

  • Great job! I see you didn't use the interview you had with me, but I'm OK with that. Ralph Demicco was an excellent choice for someone to speak for NH gun owners. I think he gave a better interview than I did. I see you used a few seconds of video from my house as transitional video. The quality and good honest journalism that I'm seeing from you is a lot better than what I usually see coming from the major networks. Keep up the good work!
  • Let's not encourage 10 year olds to shoot guns!

  • I live in Philadelphia, which is not exactly New England but the issue of gun control and gun violence is very big here. Philly has one of the highest murder rates (per capita) in the country. In 2007 there were 392 homicides in Philly, 331 of these murders were caused by a firearm. There have been attempts to regulate hand guns within the city limits but because firearms laws are state regulated, nothing has been done.
Do the people in New Hampshire or anyone living outside of a large city consider the overall effect guns are having on American society? No one wants to take away another American’s right to shoot a deer, or protect themselves from the mean streets of Manchester.
Since the second amendment seems to be used as a defense often times, I assume I may use the words of Thomas Jefferson to express my opinion on archaic gun laws: “I am not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and constitutions, but laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times.”
Times have changed since the 18th century. We need to be more responsible about firearm distribution now.

  • Do we need more guns?

  • I think that "Live Free of Die" pretty much sums it up. That should have been the USA's motto. That's where I'm going.

  • I myself live in NH and i don't think there should be gun bans. If people use guns correctly and do not shoot them at people nothing is going to happen. And do you seriously think gun bans will help? I mean the criminals who shoot people will not care if there is a law against owning and using guns they will still use them.
