Arcamax.com will send a chapter a day from a classic book to your inbox, although, if you're looking for newer titles, you may want to hit the library or a bookstore. The avaliable titles from this service are all public domain and old.
Set up your computer to read your email aloud with a text-to-speech app, and you've got a book on tape of sorts. A very creepy, lifeless book on tape.
Hey! Did I mention that it's free?

That's actually a pretty cool idea. I signed up for a word of the day email because there's no way I was going to pick up a dictionary every day to learn a new vocab word, but when it comes to me in my email, it's just a part of my day!
The same could be said of the classics - I'm sure every one can think of a classic they feel they should have read, but with the web and tv...it just might not have happened. But a chapter a day in your inbox?! Anyone can do that! -
lovely.
