According to the Chico Enterprise Record, a bakery run by Homeboy Industries that burned down 8 years ago is set to reopen. Homeboy Industries is a non-profit rehab center that helps former gang members reintegrate into society, providing jobs, job training, tattoo removal and more. For more on the bakery reopening, see the article in the Chico Enterprise Record http://tinyurl.com/yukqaaAnd to take a look at the effects that Homeboy Industries has had on two former inmates and gang members, check out our pod, Life After Prison.

Homeboy Industries gives ex gang members a real chance to start over and succeed in life. I've always wondered why gangs are so widespread in Los Angeles. Is it the culture, the environment or both? One of the best documentaries I've ever seen on gangs is " Bastards of the Party" which chronicles the history of the crips and the bloods in LA.
