I need to literally cut part of this lens off... the 2 bigger sections of the 4 'petal' hood parts - (the top bit, facing you)...
does anyone have any idea of how i could do this?

try a hacksaw - we have one down here. it'll cut through plastic pretty well. That, or a dremel, which we have as well.

Remove the shade from the lens before you work on it, if you can. It might require a special wrench, though.
