It’s been a tough time for President Bush since the departure of Karl Rove from his administration. Fear not though Mr. President because even in times of sorrow there is always the eternal songs and lyrics of Phil Collins…

  • Thanks
Thank you team SuperNews! Excellent work as always. As we have all seen, clearly KR can't carry a tune and I celebrate your reflection of that.

    Thank you Phil!

This is one of those songs that always gets called the chorus "Take a look at me now" and not the title "Against all odds." Very similar to "Orinco Flow" by Enya. (Sail Away.)

  • OK...OK...I know how cheesy this will sound but "Against all odds" is one of my favorite tunes of all times. Phil Collins was BIG in Portugal when I was growing up and I nervously danced some of my first "slow dances" to this song. Oh boy... Thanks SuperNews for another great pod.
  • what phil collins song is this based on?

  • Ahh the memories... of Portugal
    Good times.

  • We made this ep because of my Phil Collins obsession...
While I understand some people have an irrational hatred of Phil Collins, not even the most jaded indi-rocker hipster McSkinny Pants could possibly argue that "turn it on again" isn't bad ass.

  • I'm with you Josh. Long live Philip David Charles Collins!
  • Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.
Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument... Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

    Thank you Patrick Bateman.

  • Afterglow
Ezra, Ezra... your words are like music to my ears. Genesis-quality music nonetheless. I'm a huge and longtime fan of Genesis. I even have an autographed photo of Rutherford, Banks and Collins from when I was 12-years-old which I carry with me everywhere. (Not really...but I do have the photo somewhere.)
I think Duke is one of their best albums too and "Misunderstanding" is one of my favorite tunes.
But I think my absolute favorite is Afterglow.
  • Patrick Bateman's appreciation for Collins-era Genesis...
...is perhaps only surpassed by his finely nuanced admiration for Huey Lewis and the News...

  • I Can't Sing
The fact that this thread is now a Phil Collins lovefest does frighten me a bit, but not enough to stop me from adding my own love of the Philmiester.

    I can’t dance, I can’t talk.
Only thing about me is the way I walk.
    I can’t dance, I can’t sing
I’m just standing here selling everything.

The end of MTV videos. Thank you Phil. Thank you.

  • This is the first version of the coconut. It was supposed to be "a coconut that resembled George Bush" but we all agreed that this was just too freaky and weird.

  • There was a day when it was very wrong to like Phile Collins, But, I'm older now and I have to say is "I Don't Care Anymore." You rock Phil...

  • Excellent. I love Bush singing Phil Collins, but did we have to see Karl in a Speedo?

I was hoping the nightmares will end next November, but after that final scene of Karl on the beach, it's going to take a lot of heavy drinking and years of psychotherapy to cleanse my brain of that picture.
