Hawaii is paradise to many people but not all. The homeless population on the island beaches has grown over the years and has had an impact on the community.

Wow, I've never been to Hawaii and I would've never guessed that some of those scenes were from a place I imagine to be paradise. The idea of "environmental racism" is fascinating, too. Good story!

I liked your piece a lot. What would be interesting to explore, as well, is the connection with homelessness in Hawaii to the sovereignty movement and the idea of "ownership" with the land. I'm glad someone is tackling the tough topics that trouble the state I was born in!
