Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has until mid-October to pass or veto the "California Dream Act." The bill would allow undocumented students to apply and qualify for tuition breaks for community college and low-income grants. Critics say that the bill would take away much needed financial aid for legal students, while supporters argue that undocumented students shouldn't be held accountable for the actions of their parents.

no one is willing to talk about the issue of immigration reform rather than giving money to illegal immigrants.

No illegal immigrants should not be given tutition grants, and government grants when an American citizen can't get them. No matter what their parents did. If they are 18 the first issue should be citizenship, not free or discount college. Why are we giving all these favors to people who aren't legally supposed to be here?

first whoamo, they are not immigrants, they are illegal immigrants and therefor criminals or the victims of criminals.

it does diminish the rights of legal citizens and legal immigrant students. it would add much more competition to get these grants and scholarships, taking away the chances from the citizens and legal immigrants who deserve it.

these children along with their parents should be sent to their home country. there they can apply for whatever grants and scholarships they want.

I think illegal immigrants should either get out of MY country or become legal citizens. The money that is for LEGAL studens should be for LEGAL students only. I honestly don't care about illegal immigrants. I think the US should start taking care of its own.

The supporters of this bill say "Why should these illegal students suffer for the choices of their parents?" Ok, then why should legal students have to suffer for the choices of these illegal immigrants? That isn't fair. The parents of the legal students worked their asses off so their children can attend school and paid taxes and worked legally. I think they are entitled to the tuition breaks and scholarships. I am sick and tired of illegal people crossing the border, bringing diseases that the US doctors eradicated decades ago, mooching off of MY tax dollars, taking jobs away from Americans, and just being a damn BURDEN on our resources.

I'm really sick and tired of it. My family came here from Europe and they were LEGAL. They didn't take a hand-out. They had to get LEGAL jobs and learn English. No one helped them. And they didn't EXPECT anyone to help them either. Now these illegal people expect the US government to just help them out, they go on welfare, pop out 10 kids, and then complain about the US government. They also wave the flags of their former country and complain about the US while saying how wonderful their "mother country" is. Then go the f*ck back!

It's time that Americans starts caring for Americans and CLOSE OUR BORDERS!!!

They are not kids or children as you keep saying. The youngest they could be is 16-17 at most and even that is a rarity. For the most part they are adults and usually have jobs. I live here in sacramento where this took place and know some of the people involved personally. one of my former friends is an illegal immigrants (our falling out had nothing to do with immigration, he just has a big mouth). my college's student government (which he is a part of and i was formerly a part of) ignorantly backed this. To say i am out of touch with the issue is completely wrong.

And of all the illegal immigrants i know, they were not poor or hungry, they can just make better money here.

Even if it is the case that they are poor and hungry, why should they push their problems over here? It's a liberal band-aid that does not solve the problem, it just creates new ones. maybe we should take a look at why they are so poor in their country? Could it have something to do with american corporations having mexican ten year olds make shoes (in mexico). But i don't see you going after them.

And how can it be criminal? Living in the u.s. illegally is illegal because it is against the law.

We put children in foster homes when their mothers who are abused by their fathers don't run away. So we do punish children for the actions of their parents.
