On October 9, 2007, a Catholic priest was condemned to life in prison for abuses he committed in Argentina's "Dirty War." From 1976 to 1983, a military dictatorship brutally repressed Argentine society and tortured and killed thousands of its citizens. The Reverend Von Wernich was a chaplain with the Buenos Aires provincial police, and participated in the repressions there. Argentina, like the rest of Latin America, is overwhelmingly Catholic, and the church here has been accused of complying with the military dictatorship when it shoudl have been defending human rights.

Los DesaparecidosIt's just a reminder of a horrifying time in Argentina's history. I'm glad the priest got what he deserves, but I'm sure the victims' families wanted justice a lot sooner
