- Prayer in School (89)
-
Okay, but besides Christian prayers, you must also have Jewish prayers, Muslim prayers, Buddhist prayers, Hindu prayers, Shintoist prayers, etc.
Prayer is fine, but true prayer is private, personal, silent, and never imposed.-

Not a convincing argument at all. Freedom of Religion and Seperation of Church and State exists in this country so you cannot brainwash children to believe a certain religious belief in schools. How would you like it if teachers held satanic rituals or kids were told not to believe in god by their teachers?

It makes me so mad when people say our nation is based on God and Christian values. Although most of the founding fathers believed in some sort of God, they didn't all believe in the same one. For example, Thomas Jefferson was considered a deist, not a Christian. So no, our country was based upon religious tolerance and freedom, (ever heard of something called the Bill of Rights?) and this religious tolerance calls for the separation of church and state. There should be absolutely no prayer in school and God SHOULD be removed from the pledge of allegiance.

Bring God back? Where'd he go?
Truth: these people aren't interested in praying, which can be done any time, silently, to oneself. They're interested in being seen to be praying, and/or in having the government validate that praying is a recommended activity. It's about spectacle, and power. Period.-

Our country was not founded by god, but founded by people who were escaping the forcing of one religion. Which is what you want to do.

SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE! NEED i SAY MORE!? YOU KNOW, NOT EVERYONE IN THIS COUNTRY IS A DEVOUT CHRISTIAN, OR A CHRISTIAN AT ALL! THIS IS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LAND OF ALLLLLLL RELIGIONS AND CREEDS- GOD AND RELIGION IS AND SHOULD BE AN INDIVIDUAL PRIVATE THING TO EVERYONE- AND ABSOLUTELY NOT PART OF GENERAL EDUCATION! GO TO CHURCH, AND BE AS DEVOUT AS YOU WANT, BUT RELIGION SHOULD NOT BE PRESSED INTO PEOPLE'S LIVES AS PART OF THEIR GENERAL EDUCATION!

No one has ever banned prayer from schools. Anyone is free to pray whenever they like. Those who truly have a connection to Creator do not need someone leading them in prayer. They carry on a constant private dialogue with what/whoever they perceive their higher power to be. It is wrong to assume that everyone needs to or should pray. It is wrong to put someone in an awkward position because he has different or no beliefs. Spirituality is a deeply private matter and should only be part of a group activity when all present agree it should be.

Number 1, yes I would support a Quran reading and a prayer to Allah. What is wrong with that? Number 2, the whole point I was trying to make was that we should not have religion in schools, but if we do, then we should be more acceptable to all religions, believing in God or not! Who are we as humans to judge anyone!!!!!!! This country was founded on freedom, but it seems so unwilling to bend!!!!!!! People in general need to open their minds and hearts and be more compassionate and acceptable! Why does everyone tend to be so judgemental!!!
