Man Found Not Guilty in Homeless Feeding Case

Eric Montanez was found not guilty for feeding the homeless. There is a law in Orlando that states you can not feed more than 25 homeless people at a feeding. Judge Steve Jewett did say that Eric needs to obey the law, but commended him for his volunteer work.

The Orlando Police Department said they continue to enforce the ordinance, but maybe this time they won't go to extreme lengths to arrest someone.

This is a step in the right direction for homeless rights in Orlando.

  • That's great! I'm so glad to hear the outcome is rational and sane, even when perhaps the laws and the police are not.

  • Food Not Bombs
Last Thursday one of the Los Angeles chapters of Food Not Bombs received a police citation for lack of sanitation or some b.s like that.
I have been volunteering with a different chapter on Sundays and we were all on alert after this incident.

Some homeless guy even showed up with a mini DV cam to watch our backs. How cool is that?

  • That's an inhumane, stupid law.

  • Hey Dan did you get a chance to talk to Eric Montanez at all?

  • I haven't talked to Eric after the verdict, but I heard he is obviously happy about the outcome and he plans to keep on feeding the homeless. Now he'll just make sure he doesn't feed more than 25 people.

  • Yeah god forbid he tries to help more than 25 hungry people at once.
