  • If it is a scare tactic, it is one fully embraced by capitalists.

Look at General Electric. Last time I checked they were not run by neo-commie hippies. They are the second largest capitalist organization on the planet. And, they see global warming as a reality. One that they must take seriously. One that they hope to help solve... and make a profit doing so.

Look at Wells Fargo Bank. They are committed to purchasing 100% of their energy from non-polluting sources.

Look at friggin British Petroleum. These damn commie freaks actually want to move us to a world beyond petroleum.

  • The speaker is correct. "Man Made" global warming is a scam to charge a Carbon Tax or Green Tax on the people. Yes, there is global warming: the Earth heats up and global cooling: the Earth cools down--and it's all caused by---THE SUN!

Did you know it was A LOT warmer in Medieval Times? They had vineyards in Northern Scotland. Well--guess what? Those endangered Polar Bears survived that warming cycle.

If you want to find out more, just watch the BBC Documentary, "The Great Global Warming Swindle". Just Google it, the powers that be keep moving it around or out of sight.

  • And your point is? We should pollute freely by travelling wastefully and allowing any sort of destruction to the planet that brings a profit, whilst NOT implementing cleaner, more efficient, more EVOLVED technology to replace archaic, outdated technologies like internal-combustion engines and coal-fired power-plants? How about we just create a country for you and anyone else who thinks like you. We could call it Nineteenth Centuryland! The rest of us will use our thirst for knowledge to make the rest of the world a better place. Now kindly F*%K off.

  • Well if it scares you into recycling, buying less junk, growing your own food, and finding new forms of renewable energy then its done its job. I hope for all our sake its not true but your claim of "earth goes through cycles" just aint cutting it.

  • That's nonsense.

  • Thank you for your cogent argument and apparent deep understanding of grade-school science.

But (almost all) scientists who are actively studying the matter now agree that the world is warming up, and the majority feel that it is certainly a possibility that this is down to human activity. So what is your evidence for global warming being a myth?

The earth may well have gone through cycles for "centuries", and the current rapid increase in average global temperatures may or may not be down to us... but isn't it best to err on the side of caution when dealing with things that could potentially kill us?

  • by the looks of this fellow, it looks like he is quite the consumer and I can see why he doesn't want his choices limited.
Selfish thinking and actions are partly to blame for the situation the world is in today and it affects far more than global warming.
  • Pollution is pollution. And pollution kills, that's a proven fact...

    Go ahead, look it up!
    Sheke
  • If it takes the eminate threat of global warming and catastrophe to change the ways of people and companies from polluting and moving twards a "green" way of life than warm up the headlines cus we need to change 'weather' the temperature does or not.

  • Hee Hee!
I suppose this guy thinks that the idea that obesity and hypertension lead to premature death is a myth too!

His scientific evidence: box office take for a boring film was low? Even if that were the smartest way to judge scientific truth, I think Al Gore's film grossed more than any other documentary ever! Thanks no doubt to its sensational special effects composed in Apples derivative version of PowerPoint. That would be the Inconvenient Truth for this Rush Limbaugh Ditto Head.

  • oh boy.. and you probably voted for Bush and thinks he is still doing a good job.. well let me enlighten you ..the ozone is burning away which leads to the polar caps that have been melting.. the shifting of precipitation to zones that aren't normally wet.. the increase in temperature has gone up 13% percent in the last TWO YEARS!!!! and Bush is STILL AN IDIOT! LOL
There is no scare tactic.. think of it you bi focal wearin', hair-lip, 4 wheelin' mullet wearing A hole! LOL If we do not stop driving our cars and trucks.. think of HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE ON THIS PLANET!!!! AND HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE DRIVING CARS and that exhaust goes up into the air , into the ozone which affects the climate, the temperature, the very nature of everything living around you and me and when all of that goes , then you my friend are FUCKED!!! WE ARE ALL FUCKED!!! IMPEACH BUSH!

  • So I like getting to hear different perspectives-- especially when they are different than my own.

I am all for people disagreeing-- I think that is what will make this a powerful place on the web to visit.

I do think, however, when there is name calling, that stops our ability to have an authentic exchange of ideas, and doesn't inspire people to say what they are truly thinking. The difference to me is between disagreeing with an idea and attacking a person.

It just so turns out, that I started learning about global warming when I was in school-- so I don't get the connection between grade school science and the 'myth' of global warming.

And while I really liked the 11th Hour, I agree with Greg that the previews made it look like it was using scare tactics, and I agree that is not the way to get people involved with and learning about climate change issues.

  • Mother Nature has been cooling and warming this planet way before any of us was around. She does what and when she wants. Do you really think that a petty creature such as a human can hurt this world, well you are mistaken my friend. use you're own judgements of real facts and you will know the truth. late Rip

  • SirRip ,First off, your grammar sucks. Second, if you think humans are "petty" creatures on this planet who can cause NO impact then you know nothing about the way nature works.

  • “The 11th hour” had a very limited release. Not too many people even have had the chance to see it if they wanted to. Capitalism is alive and has a very healthy future ahead of it when the capitalists realize the great gobs of money they can make on a sustainable future. You have basically delivered the typically ill-informed and selfish hate speech that is equal to tuning the radio to static and turning it up to 10 with headphone on. Enjoy your little static bubble.

  • In responce to my grammer, you have got to be joking, lmao! here we are talking about warming and all you can come up with is You're grammer sucks oooooo you got me haha look, when i say petty humans, think of the big picture and not you're little speck of time here on earth. the real deal is this if you goto the ice cores from the verious locations north or south poles they will show you facts not bull. the world has and always will be changing its temps when it wants case closed thank you but learn the facts. • Even the Republican candidates are taking Climate Change 101 positions. They have an unsure grasp of the problem, it seems, being new converts, but pretty soon the only ones who will deny climate change will be those whose sole reason for denying it is that Al Gore said it. If Gore said "Democracy is good," they'd disagree with that, too.

For info on Republican presidential candidates' conversions to climate change believers, see the NY Times article at http://tinyurl.com/yomnml.

  • Which came first the chicken or the egg?

I guess we'll never know because it looks like you ate them all!!

Global warming is an issue regardless or not of belief!

If you believe it's not a problem then help to avoid it becoming a problem for your youngs future.

If you believe it's a problem start making the changes that the world see fit.

Does it hurt to tidy the earth?
I bet you would all go skitz if your home was a shit tip.
Guess what the earth is your home, so do something to make it a better place.

If it's there help prevent it, If it's not there, then help prevent it from getting there.

    JUST BE TIDY PEOPLE

    That would be all.

  • "The Earth recycles, it has for centuries!"
What grade school did you attend, exactly? They taught you that the Earth has been around for a few hundred years? I see. Well, since you obviously have a working mastery of Earth science, I'll trust you. Except, not. This clown is doing his best Rush(the fool, not the band) impression, and he includes just as many facts! Yes, nature "does what it does". One of the things it does, is heat up when the delicate atmosphere is flooded with pollutants and massive amounts of CO2. Sure, volcanoes release it and there are other natural sources too, but the ecosystems can only handle so much before they begin to purge themselves. If we continue to flood the environment with wastes and extract resources as if there are no limits, what will we have left? Toxic wastes! Until someone figures out how to grow food in nuclear by-products and spilled petroleum or until this guy starts eating his own garbage, we must bring an end to the rampant exploitation of the Earth. Of course, if we can find the doorway to his fantasy world where the Earth is only "several centuries" old and actions have no consequences, we'll be perfectly fine! Good luck.

  • Perhaps the problem here is that the speaker did not endeavor to go beyond “basic science” and consider the complex effect humans are having on the global climate. The argument that global warming is a “scare tactic” is simply a way for cowards to bury their heads in the sand; a lazy person’s justification for not change their lifestyle.

  • analogy: Pascal didn't believe in God, but on his deathbed he decided to believe in God because he figured it was a good gamble. The measures people and corporations are taking to address global warming (whether myth or fact) is a "good gamble". Slowing down the rate of resource depletion (oil plus all the other complex hydrocarbons that cannot be replaced for several million years) makes sense. Unless you are really keen on an all out World War III between China and the United States (with everybody losing bigtime!) I suggest you join the conservationists, who aim to slow the depletion of oil by using alternative energy sources (solar, wind, biodiesel, etc.).

  • ROTFLOL, Proteanbf!

Did you REALLY mean to post what you typed - which was in part - "The speaker is correct. They had vineyards in Northern Scotland."?

Proteanbf, did you realize that In Medieval Times, the earth was not supporting almost SIX BILLION people? There were less than half a billion persons in the whole world and they had hardly ANY capacity to create gases approaching those coming from the industrial machinery at our disposal today. Those gasses ARE able to wreak havoc with the atmosphere.

Even if your faulty hypothesis were true, why would you think EXACERBATING climate change with our own waste and pollution was the thing to do?

Methinks you have done too much listening to one of Radio-Rightyland's most off-balanced prophets, Lush Rimbaugh or perhaps you've discovered and over-indulged in a cache of that Medieval Scottish wine, my friend.

When massive Arctic ice melts cause Polar Bears to find new food sources and they are forced migrate to Antarctica, will your same "grassy-knoll" response be simply to rename them "Bi-Polar" Bears? LOL You believers of the plutocratic "Profit Trumps the Environment" mentality crack me up.

May George Bush bless you and keep you. May he cause his face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you peace. Amen and Amen.

Please join me as we speak in tongues by saying Shondala Rhondala Hondala Fondala.

And one more thing - When is Pat Robertson going to "Peru" with an army of Christian Soldiers to assassinate Hugo Chavez? That's where the adminsitration said Hugo is now president. Had we had this much pre-war intelligence, we could have attacked a blue state here in the U.S. instead of going to Iraq.

  • You repeat rhetoric like a champ!
    DrGlass
  • "Nature does what nature does..."

I agree with this statement, however, nature cannot fully support itself if we are destroying it. I'm not sure about others, but what I learned in grade school did not compliment his views. I learned to recylce, reuse items, and reduce the impact we have on the earth.

Whether or not global warming exists, we as inhabitants of the earth need to learn to protect it for future generations.

Name calling is unnecessary for getting one's ideas across, only getting anger and ignorance across. Stop.

  • Ah Gregb again. So global warming is a myth to destroy capitalism? Interesting argument, I'm just wondering how so? I would think quite the opposite. Global warming should give rise to multibillion dollar companies specializing in design and construction of alternate energy technologies. Changing the infrastructure alone to support, say for instance, hydrogen powered automobiles instead of gasoline is predicted to take at least 20-30 years and cost hundreds of billions of dollars-in this country alone! That's alot of work for engineers, planners, environmental specialists, construction firms and the multitude of companies that would be needed supply construction materials to name just a few. Someone is going to put those profits into their pockets and that's called capitalism. You see gregb, if you could unglue yourself from Fox "News" long enough to read a little, you'd see that the real anti-global warming forces, the one's who rhetoric you spit back mindlessly, are the current energy giants whose ability to buy politicians, create geopolitical instability, and rape the world population for a gallon of gas is coming to an end. They are a dying breed representing an archaic technology whose time is rapidly coming to an end. Like a desperate and dying human being they will tell any lie, clutch at any straw, elevate any doubt to gain a few more days of life, and getting people like you, to publicly humiliate yourself on their behalf, is simply part of their attempt to stay alive. But what the hell Gregb, it's good to be part of something, isn't it? If that means becoming an unthinking mouthpiece supporting something that is working directly against your self interest, so be it.
